Our Reach is Growing: 2023 Mentor Network Map

GSGC Mentors are now making a difference in the lives of over 1,000 youth in 53 girls and boys clubs across three countries! We also launched four clubs focused on keeping alumnae connected to essential resources and support.

As our updated 2023 Mentor Network Map shows, GSGC programs are having a positive impact in rural and urban communities in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Madagascar. The map also provides insight into the unique approaches our Mentors take to empower girls and inspire gender equality. “We are going to have boys who are able to respect women”

GSGC Talk Radio gives our local changemakers a platform to voice and discuss their work. In the latest podcast episode, Mentors Prosper Siphambili in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and Kangwa Yombwe in Livingstone, Zambia, share their personal stories and talk about the ways they "walk the talk" toward breaking the cycle of poverty.

“Wow! Listening to these Mentors discuss boys’ clubs for girl empowerment was thought-provoking and inspiring,” said GSGC monthly donor Heather Patrick. "It gave me new insight into why boys embracing gender equality is essential and about cultural norms and challenges to this approach.”

Programming: Essential to GSGC's Mission

Our latest installment in the GSGC Fundamentals blog series focuses on programming. Deceptively simple, programming is the lifeblood of GSGC’s success. Reflecting our long-term commitment to club members, programming is designed to develop “the whole person.” The goal is to give youth the freedom to pursue any path they choose.

Central to programming are Life Skills. In the blog post, Mentor Procedure Chikosi describes how Girls’ Time in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, approaches this. “We understand life skills as any skills needed for youth to make the most of their lives. Our goals revolve around developing confident, independent, innovative and informed girls who are in control of their own destiny. We use different life skills to help achieve this."

Pinky’s Story: The Power of Mentoring

We knew Pinky was special when, years ago, she thrived in workshops, camps and leadership trainings GSGC funded for the Jikeleza dance troupe in a marginalized township in Cape Town, South Africa. We have followed her journey, and during a recent phone visit we were delighted, but not surprised, to hear so clearly how she exemplifies GSGC core values and principles.

Now married, living in the UK, working as an accountant and giving back to her community in Southern Africa, Pinky represents the best of what GSGC-sponsored mentoring can do — enrich young people with confidence, drive, a good education and independence. The life Pinky has made for herself and her family perfectly illustrates that mentoring is a proven path out of poverty and into a better life. This is what your donations to GSGC make possible. Second Annual Art Auction Fundraiser

Following the success of last year’s Art Auction, we are excited to announce this fundraiser will be an annual event. Please join us for a celebration featuring art from the Global Sojourns Giving Circle community and Pacific Northwest artists.
