JULY 27, 2025

JFS is proud to welcome Dr. Justin Steinfeld, MD, PhD to the Bennett Center for Behavioral Health as our consulting psychiatrist. After finishing his undergraduate degree at Yale University, Dr. Steinfeld obtained his MD-PhD at Columbia University. He went on to complete a combined adult and child & adolescent psychiatry residency at Columbia University and now conducts pharmacology research at the New York State Psychiatric Institute to develop new treatments for autism and schizophrenia. Dr. Steinfeld will be providing clinical oversight and supervision to our team of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners. His guidance and mentorship will be an invaluable asset as we continue to grow and strengthen our behavioral health services. Our clinical staff will consult with Dr. Steinfeld, enhancing our interdisciplinary approach to care.

Erin Tishman, LPC, Clinical Director at JFS, shared, “Dr. Steinfeld’s thoughtful and collaborative approach to psychiatric care is a wonderful addition to our team. His expertise allows us to better support our clients with timely, compassionate, and comprehensive treatment, tailored to their individual needs.”

Dr. Steinfeld will enhance our ability to provide integrated, high-quality mental health services across the entire Bennett Center for Behavioral Health network. We look forward to the positive impact he will have on our clients and community.

Jorge Gallego serves as the JFS Workforce Development and Financial Coordinator. His work is driven by a deep commitment to helping individuals achieve self-sufficiency. Whether guiding clients into the workforce or equipping them with financial and digital literacy skills, Jorge’s approach is rooted in empathy and personalization. “The key to success,” he says, “is meeting clients where they are.”

Jorge oversees employment initiatives, builds strategic partnerships, and designs training and certification programs. He also leads workshops and one-on-one sessions focused on budgeting, credit building, and navigating the digital world—efforts made possible through the dedication of JFS volunteers.

One of Jorge’s proudest moments was celebrating the graduation of 50 clients from the Integrated Service Delivery (ISD) program. Each participant reached key milestones like opening a bank account and establishing credit. Jorge finds the greatest reward in witnessing clients overcome barriers, such as language, housing, or transportation. “It’s inspiring to see how meaningful support can transform lives,” he reflects.

As families prepare for the new school year, many in our community are struggling to afford even the most basic supplies. That’s where you come in.

JFS is hosting our annual Back-to-School event next month to ensure every child starts the year with confidence—and a full backpack. From notebooks to glue sticks, every donation makes a difference!

  • The average elementary school student uses 50–100 pencils each year— nearly two pencils a week!
  • Students go through about 833 sheets of paper annually.
  • The most popular crayon color among kindergarteners is blue. According to Crayola, it’s a fan favorite across the U.S.
  • A fully stocked backpack can carry over 20 essential items, from glue sticks to graph paper.
  • The average ballpoint pen can draw a line over 2 miles long!
