This Saturday, a Redwood City Public Library staff member was recognized by the Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market for her outstanding contributions to the market and the community. For years, Rebecca has staffed the Library’s outreach table at the Farmers Market, welcoming visitors of all ages to learn more about Library services and programs. Children are always invited to pick out a free book to take home, thanks in part to generous funding from Kiwanis that helps the Library spread the love of reading throughout the community. With her warm smile and welcoming spirit, Rebecca has become a familiar and beloved presence at the market, and we are proud to see her recognized for the impact she makes.

The Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market takes place on Saturdays from 8am-1pm at 500 Arguello Street. We encourage you to shop this community gem, supporting local farmers and vendors. And be sure to stop by the RCPL table when we are there!

Save the dates for Redwood City’s Juneteenth celebrations! Throughout June, the Library and community partners will host programs honoring Black history, culture, creativity and joy. Highlights include author Marissa McGee presenting Free the Curls, a Juneteenth printmaking workshop, a historical perspective and poetry conversation with Lois Fried, and family-friendly storytelling and music with Kirk Waller. On Wednesday, May 27, join us at the Downtown Library for a special evening celebrating the voices of local youth at the Poetry & Collage Project Reading, featuring original work by middle and high school students from across San Mateo County. Developed through hands-on workshops at The Center for Creativity, this free reading highlights youth writing and visual art.

This issue includes a huge Thank You to our donors, with a special thanks to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors for approving a Measure K grant for the Teen Intern Program and Summer Learning Challenge, and a quote from a recurring donor.

It highlights personal experiences in Library programs we support: a student born in Paraguay now in the Teen Intern Program and an RCLF board member who participated in the Summer Learning Challenge growing up. There is an update on the Bridging the Digital Divide initiative and an overview of the four non-profits (pillars) that support RCPL.

And it has the latest news about our fundraisers. Attendees at April’s Night at the Library searched the Downtown Library after hours for clues to solve a mystery, raising $16,000 for Library initiatives. Tickets are available for our 5^th Annual Pub Crawl on Oct. 7, 2026 celebrating Banned Books week.
