The Guam Chamber of Commerce extends its appreciation to the 12 Republican senatorial candidates who took part in the Guam Young Professionals’ (GYP) YouDecide candidate forum on Thursday, October 8th: Louisa Jean Borja, Vincent Borja, Shelly Vargas Calvo, Gregorio Calvo, William Castro, Christopher Duenas, Eulogio Shawn Gumataotao, Jesse Michael A. Lujan, Matteo Mortera, Sabrina Salas Matanane, Jonathan Savares, and Telo Teresa Taitague.
Each of the 15 candidates on the Republican slate received an invitation. These 12 chose to sit down with a generation of professionals whose careers, families, and long-term plans will be shaped by the next Legislature. We are grateful for their time and for their openness in yesterday’s discussion. Forums of this kind give candidates a valuable chance to hear directly from emerging leaders and to share how they would approach the issues facing our island.
“Guam’s young professionals are deciding where to build their careers and raise their families, and many are asking whether that future can be here at home,” said Chamber Chairman Edward Untalan. “We commend the candidates who showed up, listened, and answered their questions. Showing up is how trust begins, and we urge every candidate to make this kind of engagement a priority.”
This recognition honors participation and does not constitute a Chamber endorsement of any candidate. Our standard applies equally across party lines: those who seek to represent Guam’s young professionals should be willing to hear from them.
The Chamber also thanks GYP’s leadership, volunteers, and attendees for creating a meaningful forum for civic engagement and informed voting.
Through Project Prosperity, the Chamber’s voter education campaign, we encourage voters to look for concrete commitments on jobs, housing, effective government, and Guam’s economic future. We also encourage them to ask who will be accountable, when results can be expected, and how progress will be measured.
The Chamber will host its Congressional Forum on Wednesday, October 28th at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.
