ENCOUNTER - October 22

SMA students and staff are invited to attend an evening of Eucharistic Adoration and praise & worship on Thursday, October 22 at 7 PM in the Chapel of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Spots are limited CLICK HERE to sign up today!
Halloween Costume Competition - October 30

Community Competition! Friday, October 30 students are allowed to dress up for a Halloween Costume Competition. Costumes will be judged on Best Individual Costume, Best Costume Duo and Best Group Costume (3 or more). Group costumes must be in the same Community. Costumes should be in keeping with SMA mission and values. They should be fun, neat, modest, and creative. See detailed guidelines posted at school. Students not wishing to dress in costume, may enjoy a dress in orange/black day for a $5 donation towards Noah's Bandage Project.
Guardian Stride Grand Prize - Chiefs Tickets!

There's still time to support SMA by getting sponsorships for the Guardian Stride. The student who raises the most money by Nov. 2 will win two Chiefs tickets with parking pass! The Guard Fundraising Opportunity at Chiefs Home Games

The Guard (Booster Club) has the opportunity to raise funds for our athletics/activities department by working concessions at the KC Chiefs home games. We are in need of more volunteers to cover more stands! Volunteers must attend a training from 6-9pm on October 28th at SMA. Parents or students (over the age of 16) who are interested can SIGN UP HERE. Email Mary Kroening at mkroening@smacatholic.org if you have any questions.

Winter Sports Concussion Testing and Parent Meeting on October 31
Saturday, October 31, there will be a meeting for all winter sports athletes and their parents/guardians beginning at 9 AM.  Any athlete that has not already completed their concussion testing will be required to take it. Parents will meet with Athletic Directors and coaches to discuss the upcoming winter season. All physicals and paperwork will need to be turned in on this day. Email Mary Kroening at mkroening@smacatholic.org with any questions. Masks are required.

Emily Rogge and Jenna Drake compete at State Tennis
Seniors Emily Rogge and Jenna Drake enjoyed the preparations leading up to MSHSAA State Tennis. Sonic Locker Room radio show interviewed the dual on Tuesday, and Wednesday they were named HyVee Athletes of the Week and featured on KSHB Action 41 News. To watch the news story CLICK HERE. Friday, they took to the courts in the Class 1 State Tennis Tournament in Springfield. While the results were not what they'd hoped for, we are still proud they made school history by being the first to qualify for State in girls tennis. Congratulations to the entire Guardian tennis team and Coach Hirtzel for a tremendous season!
Golfer Avery Basler medals at State
Freshman Avery Basler medaled at the Golf State Tournament in Smithville held on Monday and Tuesday. Despite temperatures in the 40s, she was able to place 12th out of 76 golfers in Class 1 MSHSAA Tournament. Fellow Freshmen golfer Pearl Taylor also competed but did not medal. Both Guardians represented SMA with heart and integrity. The future looks bright for these young golfers! Congratulations to the entire Girls Golf Team and Coach Sellnow and Coach Glasgow for a great season!

There will be a College Information Meeting directly following the Winter Sports Meeting on Saturday, October 31. Meeting will begin at approximately 10 AM. Employment Opportunity for an SMA Student
A family from Our Lady of the Presentation needs help after school with their two children. A 4th grade girl and 2nd grade boy. Responsibilities include help tutor the kids, finish homework, prepare a light snack and other small tasks. This would be everyday after school until 6pm. This is a paid position.
