The warm weather has brought another slew of winemakers through this neck of the woods, showing off the fruit of their vines; so our staff should be full of excited utterances of vintages that have recently passed their lips. "I sat down to lunch at the wonderful Heirloom Restaurant in St. Paul with a glass of this and a super fresh salad, featuring dill as part of the dressing. One sip of this wine with the salad made the previously-subtle dill absolutely sing. My point being, if you're a chef and looking for something new and different to accentuate your new creation, this just might be the ticket." DM

"So much wine for the money - this was made with the help of Frenchman Jean-Marc Lafage of Domaine Lafage. Hundred year old vines contribute intese red and black fruits and garrigue. Some new oak rounds it out and makes it feel 'modern.' Throw some meat on the grill and pop the cork on this super-affordable gem." DM

Lafage "Narassa" 2014, Roussillon, France, $18.99
"From one of the warmest sites in France, the 2014 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Lieu Dit La Narassa comes from 70-year-old vines planted in the black schist soils of Maury. Despite the rugged, hot terroir from where this beauty comes, the wine is pure silk and elegant, with lots of black raspberry, chocolate covered currants, pepper and olive notes giving way to a full-bodied 2014; it has polished tannin and a seamless texture. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah that was aged mostly in concrete tank (20% in demi-muids), drink it anytime over the coming 4-5 years." 93pts WA, **only 6 bottles remaining for the vintage!

Willakenzie Pinot Noir "Gisele" 2012, Yamhill-Carlton, OR, $29.99
"Relatively light in structure, with fine tannins around a glowing core of cherry, cinnamon and cream flavors, persisting into a long, vivid finish. Best from 2016 through 2020." 90pts WS

Catena Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Mendoza, Argentina, $22.99
"(from vines planted in 1973; cropped at one cluster per shoot): Bright, dark red. Ripe yet cool aromas of cassis, licorice and menthol. Supple, spicy and slightly medicinal; in a rather Old World style for a Catena wine but still with lovely fruit sweetness. The deep clay soil stayed cool in 2014 but the fruit was not affected by rot, according to Vigil. Began a bit clenched, with the acids and tannins out of sync, but harmonized nicely as it opened in the glass." 90pts V

Marietta Syrah "Gibson Block" 2014, McDowell Valley, CA, $39.99
"The 2014 Estate Syrah Gibson Block, a Syrah-based field blend, exudes depth and concentration.
