Updated Guidance on Open Houses
May 6, 2020
Based on evaluation of the Kansas reopen plan issued by the Governor last week, South Central Kansas MLS has concluded that open houses do not meet the guidelines established in Phase 1 of the reopen plan. As expressed in Phase 1, mass gatherings of no more than 10 individuals are allowed and individuals must maintain 6-foot social distancing. Open houses have the potential to contradict both requirements.

SCK MLS has determined that marketing of open houses in the MLS system will continue to be suspended until Kansas enters Phase 2 of the reopen plan, which is currently projected to start on May 18th.

In Phase 2 of the plan there continues to be a requirement to maintain 6-foot social distance, but mass gatherings are increased to no more than 30 individuals. Once we enter phase 2, SCK MLS plans to begin marketing open houses in the MLS system.

We recommend live streaming open houses as an alternative. The ability to hold an open house is ultimately the decision of the broker and the seller. We will continue to offer guidance at the local, state and national level and continue to convey the requirements set by our state and federal governments.
