"Winter Neutrals" Watercolor with Jan Guarino
Winter brings us challenges as our landscape turns towards grey days and colorless surroundings. We as artists long to go beyond what we see and find the subtle colors in our atmosphere and introduce them into our paintings.
Come explore our winter landscape with me – but we won’t be using Payne’s grey or brown! We will use our colorful palettes to create a more interesting and vibrant painterly rendition of our photos.
Three part Zoom series: Mondays February 8, 15, 22, 2-4pm $105 PAG members/$115 nonmembers

Calling All Art Lovers!
The Portsmouth Arts guild is launching an online art discussion group called “Let’s Talk Art”. This is a free online forum open to all. Each month there will be a presentation on an Artist or Art Movement with plenty of time for discussion. We will meet the last Wednesday of each month from 5-6 PM.
(for more information and to receive a link please contact Suzanne Lewis at pleinair@portsmoutharts.org)

February’s featured artist will be Dean Mitchell, known for his figurative works and landscapes. Join us!

Sketching from Our Cars - February
Get out of your house and sketch with passionate, like minded artists! Stay warm in your car while enjoying scenic locations in the East Bay. We will meet each weekend in February from 1:30-3:30, Saturday OR Sunday. We will also meet at other times for pop up “snow days”. Location will be determined by the weather and participants will be notified by Friday morning.

We will gather briefly at the end of each session to share our work, wearing masks and socially distancing.

Painting: Observation and Process with Sherie Harkins

Painting is only partially about talent – mostly it is about experience, knowledge, and practice. Those who paint more become better painters. Seeing is like that too, and because we are all unique, we can help one another by sharing what we observe. We will discuss what to look for, methods to assist in seeing accurately, and common mistakes. Participants will have the opportunity to share and get feedback from one another as we go through the process of translating our observations into paintings. Sherie will be demonstrating primarily in oil but participants are welcome to work in acrylic if that is a preferred medium. Images will be supplied. Participants are encouraged to work between the sessions and share their progress during the live meetings for feedback and mutual benefit.

3 Part Zoom classes Tuesdays, March 9, 16 and 23   4-6pm, $105 PAG members, $115 nonmembers. Register here soon: https://portsmoutharts.org/classes-and-workshops/
