This is an excellent time to join the Guild. The recent virtual shows have had huge exposure through the various social media platforms. Different modes of visual expression are welcome and diversity is encouraged!

Members are invited to submit up to three pieces of art for this show. All works are welcomed and will be in the show. All work must be recent and for sale.

This will be virtual show with no physical exhibition of the work. 
Intake for the show begins Wednesday, September 23rd, and continues through Tuesday, September 29th. Artists must email pictures, in jpeg format, no larger than 5 MB, to the address. The show will premiere on the Guild’s new YouTube channel and various social media platforms starting the weekend of October 3rd.

Show entry fees are for $15.00 for the first entry and $5.00 each additional, up to three. 

Payment can be by mailed-in check (must be received by September 29th) or by credit or debit card through the “donate” button on the Guild website, Please remember to add $2.00 for credit card processing.

Any painting you create that day and any paintings you bring with you can be offered for sale at the event. We also plan to hold a virtual online sale after the event to offer your works for sale. The Portsmouth Arts Guild Gallery’s 25% commission will apply to all sales. Social distancing and masks required.

Regardless of whether you can attend, please consider donating a small piece of art. We hope to have paintings for the Vineyard’s guests to purchase as a souvenir of their evening, for a freewill donation. Any medium, with a theme of wine, grapes, jazz or vineyard, and finished with a frame or mat would be nice.

The Newport Preservation Society is offering a unique opportunity to enjoy the grounds and gardens of all three properties without buying a ticket to the mansions themselves. The Portsmouth Arts Guild would like to invite you to paint, stroll, take photos, draw and picnic with us on the following dates. 
Green Animals, Wednesday, Sept.16 10-12:30 (bring a picnic lunch)
The Breakers, Sunday, Oct. 4 2-5 (lemonade and pastries provided)
The Elms, Sunday, Oct. 18 2-5 (cider and cookies provided)
Fee: $18 for all three properties plus $10 donation to PAG

Learn the basic techniques of drawing in pen and ink and take your drawing skills to another level with a new medium. Four weekly classes of plein air instruction.For those with watercolor experience, pen and wash advice will be available the last 2 classes. Class is limited to 8 students.
Materials list will be emailed upon registration. Social distancing and masks required.

Christine Belanger is a local artist based in Tiverton Rhode Island working in watercolor, charcoal, graphite and pen & ink. Her works include still life, landscapes and seascapes representing the New England area as well as subjects chosen from her travels. She is a member of and instructor with the Westport Art Group, a member of the Portsmouth Arts Guild and an Artist Member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society.

Feel empowered! Release your natural artistic ability! Ditch the photos and rules of realism and enjoy creating emotional art. Instructor will show samples, explain simple techniques and give 1:1 assist online. Hand-outs will be provided. ZOOM link will be sent upon registration.

Lisa Batch has displayed her art in numerous galleries and shows throughout New England and SW Florida. She has taught art classes at The Brooks Resort in Estero, FL. and she was the featured artist and demonstrator at the COCO Gallery, also in Estero. Besides painting, her creative background includes time as a Broadway singer, an ASCAP composer, and a national award winning author. These days Lisa is content to paint nonstop and she looks forward to sharing this fascinating art form with you.

Oil or Acrylic
PLEIN AIR One Evening

Join this workshop to capture the evening light, painting in plein air. Using oil or Acrylics, the artist will learn the necessity of editing details to seize the quickly changing light, colors and shadows that define the landscape. Barbara will contact students with the location and suggested materials. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks required when not social distancing.

Barbara Healy’s paintings try to be more than just a snapshot, giving a feel of the breeze on a summer sail or a memory of an evening walk. She is a Juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Art Center and Board member of the Westport Art Group. Awards include Cuttyhunk Plein Air 2017 Purchase Prize and Spring Bull Gallery Beach and Boating Show 2015 Best in Show Prize.

PLEIN AIR- Tiverton/Little Compton
September 23 and 24
9 AM to 4 PM
$240 nonmembers/$200 members
Enjoy 2 days of watercolor painting in the Tiverton/Little Compton area. Paint the rural landscapes and historic buildings that this area is known for. Bill will start with a demo and then set you loose to paint the scene that speaks to you, while providing individual attention throughout the day.
Here are some of the things that you will learn in this workshop:
         Determining a scene that speaks to you, whats the feeling?
         Planning your painting, looking for the right composition
         Creating the mood

Bill is a Signature Artist Member of the New England Watercolor Society and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. He is also an Artist Member of the Copley Society of Art and an Exhibiting Artist Member of the Providence Art Club.

Explore color, shape and movement, while learning about the wonders of the art of Henri Matisse. Then, create your own Matisse-like” cut out project! Art supplies needed include colored paper, scissors, glue stick, colored markers, pencil and eraser.

 Step into the magical world of Marc Chagall and learn about his unique painting
style. Then, create your own Chagall-like” window filled with all the things that
you care most about. Art supplies needed: any childs watercolor set, paint brush,
water, paper towels, watercolor paper, pencil and eraser.

 Welcome to the world of Pablo Picasso, where one can see all sides of something
all at once! We will explore Picassos style and development, and then paint our own Picasso-like” self- portraits. Art supplies needed: crayons, large sheet of paper, pencil and eraser.
About the classes….
These classes are meant for children and parents/grandparents to take together.

Margie Samuels is an experienced watercolorist and art instructor. Graduating with honors from Brandeis University, she majored in fine arts, then went on to study painting at both the Arts Student League in New York and the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. Samuels shows and sells her own paintings through various arts organizations as well as local and out-of-state galleries. She is a Signature Member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society, the Garden State Watercolor Society and the Essex Watercolor Club. She has won numerous awards  for her paintings. Samuels has an impressionistic style with a strong sense of composition; her paintings invite the viewer in through exciting brushwork and color combinations.
