"Walk In" Passport Services Begin at Register of Deeds on Tuesday, September 5th!

The Guilford County Register of Deeds begins accepting "Walk-In" passport applications on Tuesday, September 5th from 8:30 am- 3:00 pm Monday through Friday in the BB and T building at 201 West Market street in Downtown Greensboro.

Guilford County Passport Services will be the  only "Walk In" facility in Guilford County to process passport applications for the U.S. Department of State.

Register of Deeds Jeff Thigpen is excited to offer this new service for those planning to travel or live abroad.  "No more time consuming phone calls to set up appointments or going to other counties to apply for a passport.  We'll take care of applications on the spot with customer friendly service", Registrar Thigpen emphasizes.

The Guilford County Register of Deeds opened its Passport office in November 2016.   As an appointment-only facility, the office has since processed 2,350 passport applications and generated $75,000 for Guilford County government.  "Guilford County has 550,000 citizens and is the third largest county in North Carolina.  We're at a place now to take this service to a higher level", says Thigpen.

Here is the current US Department of State Passport Fee Chart .  Guilford County government receives a $25 processing fee and provides passport photos for $10 as needed.

If customers need certified birth certificates the Register of Deeds office can provide them for $10 if born in Guilford County. If born outside of Guilford County in North Carolina after 1971 the fee is $24.

"We want to make this process as convenient as possible and become the premier location for passports in Guilford County", says Thigpen.

Guilford County was the third Register of Deeds office to open a Passport Services office in North Carolina behind Brunswick and Johnston Counties. Rockingham County recently became the fourth.

Thigpen encourages applicants to search "Guilford County Passport Services" online or visit the Register of Deeds website:  www.myguilford.com/rod/passports
