Spring Fling
Spring Fling is still happening down at our Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary, so stop by to see some migratory birds! The event ends on May 8, so hurry down! A Cape May, redpoll, Chestnut-sided, and many more awesome birds were spotted there in the past few days.

THANKS SO MUCH to the volunteers who helped us man the host station and keep the sanctuary looking beautiful this year. We truly appreciate everyone's hard work!
Bird Banding
Join us once again for Bird Banding on May 21st from 8 am - noon at our headquarters in Lake Jackson. Come see birds in the hand and learn about the science of bird banding. The earlier you arrive the more birds you'll see. This event is free of charge!

And while you're here, why not check out our native plant nursery and wander our trails too? We even have picnic tables set up for an outdoor lunch -- It's the perfect nature outing for the family!
New Educational YouTube Videos
We've added new videos and presentations to our YouTube page! These were created for our Virtual Bird bash, but will live on on YouTube page. Taylor Keys presented on the Lights Out movement, which aims to protect migrating birds from light pollution, Sue Heath presented her work with Eastern Willets, Martin Hagne spoke about window strikes, and Cin-Ty Lee presented on Kingbird identification.

These presentations are all wonderful and worth watching, so check them out!
Texas Ornithological Society Meeting
In April, we at GCBO helped host the Texas Ornithological Society's annual meeting. We helped run 34 trips for approximately 100 participants and found 230 species of birds!
We also had some great presenters including our keynote speaker Tiffany Kersten, and presentations from Cin-Ty Lee, Ron Weeks and our own Sue Heath and Celeste Silling. Then, at the end of the meeting, we had an auction of some beautiful Dennis Shepler paintings.
Thanks to TOS, Bob Friedrichs, Ron Weeks, Jackie Hicks, our volunteers, and everyone who helped!
SPLASh Cleanups
Thanks to the students and teachers of Spring Branch ISD, who joined our SPLASh project to pick up 1,008 pounds of trash from Monument Inn!

This is our second largest haul to date. If you want to join us at a SPLASh cleanup, or even set up your own private cleanup for a school, group, or business, let us know!

Visit https://www.splashtx.org/ for more info!
Thanks to our RV Volunteers!
This month, we have Tom and Karyn Schmitz returned to GCBO to help us out as our RV volunteers.

They were a lot of help at outreach events, feeding the birds, and taking care of the property.

Thanks so much, Tom and Karyn!

Fresh Oranges
Spring Fling is coming up and the birds will need lots of oranges at our Quintana preserve! Please bring them to our headquarters anytime (we can store in our freezer) or to Quintana once Spring Flings starts.  Thanks!

Black Oil Sunflower Seed and Chicken Scratch
We feed year-round here at GCBO, and during migration at Quintana. We stock our GCBO feeders to help augment natural foods, and this also helps our monthly banding research project.

Small Dresser
Our field house houses our interns and they need more storage. If you have a small dresser that you would like to donate, please let us know.
Corporate Matching Programs
Did you know that many corporations have a donation matching program? Corporations can match their employees' volunteer hours and/or donations to nonprofit organizations like GCBO! These types of programs are great because they double your contributions to the causes that you care about! If you work (or are retired from) a corporation, ask them about their matching program today!
Recycle Your Old Technology and Help Birds
The Wireless Alliance is a company that recovers and recycles cell phones, smart phones, tablets, and other consumer recyclables.

We will be collecting these items for Wireless Alliance to keep them out of landfills as well as raise money for our conservation efforts. If you have old technology such as a phone, charger, tablet, or other accessories, consider bringing it to GCBO!
How Can You Help?
You can help support GCBO's mission in several important ways!
Save a Tree and some $!
We are trying to go as paperless as we can to save some trees and quite a bit on printing and mailing costs. We would love if you would let us email you instead of snail mailing a hard copy of any correspondence, including your future copies of the Gulf Crossings. Please email or call Tricia to say: “Hey, GCBO, please start emailing me things! Here is my email…”   Thanks!
