New project supports bird conservation in coastal Louisiana

A new Wildlife & Fisheries Team project funded through the Gulf Star Program is protecting vulnerable birds in coastal Louisiana. Through a partnership with Audubon, activities include education, outreach, and monitoring to support conservation of beach nesting birds, such as least terns and plovers, along with migratory and wintering birds.

"Litter Gitter" project helps keep waters free of marine debris

GOMA's Ali Robertson and Christina Mohrman recently traveled to Metairie, Louisiana, to participate in the installation of a new "litter gitter" with Pontchartrain Conservancy, Jefferson Parish, and Osprey Initiative. The litter gitter stops trash from going further downstream and eventually into the Gulf.

This project expands ongoing citizen science water monitoring work by Pontchartrain Conservancy supported through the Gulf Star Program.

Apply Now: green design funding opportunity

GOMA’s Integrated Planning Cross-Team Initiative seeks proposals for a green infrastructure project that will improve community resilience and reduce water pollution in one of the following areas:

  • Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes in Louisiana

Up to $41,000 is available for a 12 month project; matching funds are not required. Applications are due by July 29, 2022.
