This past weekends Golden Grounds trip was pretty darn good. The ride offshore was uneventful, that is a good thing considering the weather lately. The first night on the 30 fathom break gave the fishermen on board good action of 6-8 pound Mangrove snapper, Yellowtail snapper, decent sized Vermillion snapper aka B-liners, red porgies, King Mackerel and a bunch of Black-fin Tuna action.
The tuna were really charged up and pulling reel hard as an estimated 3 dozen were hooked with 12 being landed. Usually the Black-fin are much easier to land but this weekend they must of had some chili pepper in their lunch or something.
To add to the Tuna excitement, the ride further offshore the next morning gave up a couple more Tuna that were caught on trolling gear.
The Golden grounds once again lived up to its name and gave us great fishing and produced a whole mess of different fish throughout the day. Big Red Snapper, more Black-fin tuna, good size Scamp grouper, assorted size Yellowedge grouper, giant Amberjack, Porgies, Tilefish, Kitty Michell grouper, and a 60 pound Warsaw grouper. We also had a large aggressive shark following us and attempting to eat our grouper on the way up. Wow what an assortment!
Sunset ride back to the 30 fathom line for the night bite.
More Mangrove snapper, some Yellowtail snapper, Porgies, B-liners, tons of banded Rudderfish, Tuna, King Mackerel, American Red snapper and two very nice Mutton Snapper. The action was not red hot but steady and productive. Most anglers worked at topping off their coolers others had enough and hit the racks for some much needed sleep.
On the calm ride home the rest of the fisherman got some sleep too. I am pretty sure they were dreaming of all the fish to be caught on their next Gulfstar Goldens Grounds trip.
