Mayor Alan Webber proclaims Friday, June 3, 2022, as "Gun Violence Awareness Day."

The Proclamation reads in part: "As a community, we renew our commitment to reduce gun violence and pledge to do all we can to keep firearms out of the wrong hands, and encourage responsible gun ownership to help keep our children safe." (See the Proclamation below.

Members of the public are invited to join State Representative Linda Serrato, Councilor Amanda Chavez, Councilor Jamie Cassutt, School Board Member Sascha Anderson, and SFPS Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez for a reading of the proclamation.

There will be a moment of silence for the lives lost in Uvalde, Texas. Members of the public are invited to wear orange to support this important day. Orange ribbons will be provided coloring pages will be available for children.

City Councilor Amanda Chavez says: “Gun Violence Awareness is of the utmost importance to me as a mother, educator, and elected official. We need to continue to raise awareness in our community. The reading of this proclamation, wearing orange, and working on legislation that makes changes for our community are just some of the steps we can take. We need to continue to come together and end the gun violence that continues to take innocent lives.”
