Everyone at Guy's Trust
CAMBODIA - the second school is almost finished...
In February a group of us went to Kampot province to start building a new five - classroom block for Kandal village school and we are delighted to say that the construction is very nearly finished. There school has 328 children who were having to share three classrooms in shifts. Now they can all attend school for a full day.
...and building a third is about to start.
While in Cambodia we visited Chhouk village school, a dilapidated wooden two-roomed building for over 100 children, also attending in shifts. We have agreed to construct and equip a proper five-classroom brick building, two toilet blocks and a playground at a cost of £55,000 and we are currently raising the money so that work can start in November after the rainy season.
NEPAL - rebuilding a school after the earthquake...
Shortly after last year's earthquake that devastated parts of Nepal, we agreed to fund the reconstruction of the severely damaged Shree Chapakharka school. After more than a year of using porta-cabins, we are delighted to tell you that the new school building is well on the way to being finished.
...and building a new library
In rural Nepal school libraries are still a rarity and with no internet access, they are an invaluable resource for the whole community. For these reasons Guy's Trust is funding the construction of a library at Davang Thanti School in the impoverished Syangja district. The library will benefit not only the 287 students but also the whole local population of 3,000 people. This project will cost £15,992.
INDONESIA - 2016 MantaWatch interns start
Whilst working in Komodo, Indonesia, Guy helped set up MantaWatch, an organisation dedicated to protecting the endangered manta ray. Each year Guy's Trust funds four internships for academically gifted marine science students to spend a month working with the organisation. This year's students have just started so we would like to welcome Tri Nur Sujatmiko, Rafid Shidqi, Amelia Nurkumala and Retno Ningrum and wish them all the best of luck.
