Massimo Pigliucci | Philosophy

H&A is proud to highlight Philosophy professor Massimo Pigliucci for his contribution to Books to the Front, an international cultural initiative launched in 2023 to support Ukrainian military personnel through literature. The project has distributed more than 50,000 books to more than 100 units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, providing soldiers with access to philosophy, history, and practical knowledge during service. Pigliucci’s inclusion among the project’s authors underscores the role of humanistic inquiry, even in times of war, in sustaining morale, reflection, and intellectual life.

Isabel Estrada | CMLL

Professor Isabel Estrada is the recipient of a grant from the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs for the Building Critical AI Literacies in City College Humanities Courses. During Spring 2026, Prof. Estrada, Dr. Stefano Morello, and Zachary Muhlbauer from the CUNY AI Lab will support four CCNY humanities faculty members in designing and implementing AI-based activities in their courses. Through these use cases, AI will serve as both an assistive tool in the pedagogical process and as an object of analysis: students are asked to question what the model knows, where it fails, and how its behavior reflects underlying data and design choices.

An Italian-Australian filmmaker and CCNY film professor, Tibaldi was awarded the highly competitive fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to support his forthcoming documentary Fuori (Freedom), which traces the lives of formerly incarcerated men as they reenter civilian life. Known for his patient, observational filmmaking style, Tibaldi’s work exemplifies the power of documentary film as a humanistic practice, one that attends closely to dignity, labor, and the quiet truths that emerge beyond words.

LEGENDS: Athleticism in Asian/American Art

Curated by Art professor Jayne Cole Southard

LEGENDS: Athleticism in Asian/American Art explores the dynamic intersection of art and sport through the work of contemporary Asian and Asian American artists. Often viewed as separate realms, this exhibition reveals how athleticism and artistic expression function as interconnected arenas—each shaped by discipline, performance, and cultural meaning.

On view at the Godwin-Turnbach Museum from February 10 to May 14, 2026.
