Sept. 11: Big Day in Flossmoor

The Village of Flossmoor's annual community festival — Flossmoor Fest — is set for this Saturday, Sept. 11, in downtown Flossmoor (Sterling Avenue & Flossmoor Road), immediately following the Hidden Gem Half Marathon. H-F will again be a part of this year's event! Watch for the H-F Viking Marching Band to kick off the fest at 1 p.m. in front of the Flossmoor Public Library and look for Viking Broadcasting filming segments around the fest. Also during the fest don't miss Not My Dad, a band of talented local musicians who include Mr. Elfner and Mr. Venegas, H-F Social Science teachers. They will take the main stage from 4:30-6 p.m. The event also includes the closing auction for the Barrels of Hope project, a fundraiser for the Flossmoor Art Commission.

Please note: Prior to the fest, there will be several road closures during the Hidden Gem Half Marathon on Saturday morning. This year’s race is expected to welcome as many as 800 runners, hundreds of volunteers and thousands of spectators to Flossmoor who will be present in nearly every neighborhood of Flossmoor, which will necessitate road closures throughout the village, including the major streets of Flossmoor Road, Governors Highway, Kedzie and Western Avenue. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. on Flossmoor Road near Flossmoor's Village Hall. Note: If you are coming to H-F's campus that morning, the best route will be on Kedzie Ave. via 183rd Street. Good luck to all of the runners this year, including Flossmoor Mayor Michelle Nelson our Superintendent-Elect Dr. Scott Wakeley!

PSAT/SAT Prep Offered through Khan Academy

To help our students prepare for the upcoming PSAT/SAT Test Day on Wednesday, Oct. 13, the H-F Assessment Office has developed a guide for online, self-paced test preparation through Khan Academy. This guide is designed to help H-F students gain confidence in their test-taking abilities and improve their SAT scores by exposing them to as much practice as possible.

The Khan Academy Self-Paced Guide provides all the instructions for students to set up their Khan Academy accounts, customize their practice, set up a schedule, and monitor their progress. The site will automatically adjust for the things students need to work on the most. It is recommended that students begin working in Khan Academy as soon as possible in order to allow for enough practice time prior to the exam. The program prepares students for the SAT or the PSAT, at whatever grade and skill level they are at.

Click here to access the guide and get started!

More information will be coming soon about the Oct. 13 testing at H-F. If you have any immediate questions, please contact Mrs. Bucci at 708-335-5584 or [email protected].

AP Exam Registration

Attention Advanced Placement Students: The H-F Assessment Office would like to remind you that the registration process for end-of-the-year AP exams is already underway with the College Board. Remember that not only do AP exams provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of rigorous, college-level material, but taking them also results in a stronger performance in the course itself. In addition, scoring well on an AP exam often earns you scholarship dollars or even college credit before you even set foot on a college campus, saving you time and money. Here are some important notes about AP exams:

  • Each exam is $96 (or $144 for AP Seminar or AP Research).
  • Exam registration deadline is Nov. 8, 2021, at 4 p.m. (Or $40 late fee will apply.)
  • After March 15, 2022, no additional changes can be made to your exam schedule.
  • After Nov. 8, 2021, fees will be added to student balances in Rycor.
  • Payments can be made through Parent PowerSchool at any time.

Students will learn more about exam registration in their classes this week. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Bucci at 708-335-5584 or [email protected].

Important Reminder: COVID-19 Dashboard & Reporting Form
