Deadline Extended to Submit Applications for Parks and Natural Areas Awards
The deadline to submit  H-GAC Parks and Natural Areas (PNA) Awards  applications has been extended to Thursday, September 21.
 
PNA awards honor projects in four categories: Projects $500,000 or more; Projects under $500,000; Planning Process; and Policy Tools. Winning entries serve as models for planning and project implementation for parks and natural areas in the region.
 
Winners will be notified in November, and the awards ceremony will be in January 2018. For more information, contact Andrea Tantillo at 832-681-2507.
H-GAC Solid Waste Grants Applications Open Thursday

Each year, H-GAC receives a portion of the money collected as tipping fees at landfills across the state as pass-through funding from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), to fund solid waste grant projects throughout the 13-county region.

Over the next two years, H-GAC will award $1.2 million in S olid Waste Program Grant funds ($600,000 per year) but will accept applications for both years only during the upcoming grant application period.

The grant application period will open
Thursday, September 14.

Post-Harvey Aerial Imagery
The H-GAC Data Services GIS team is in the process of acquiring over 10,000 sq. miles of post-event aerial imagery following the major flooding in our region. The resolution of the imagery is 1 Foot and is available in both RBG (natural color) and CIR (color-infrared). If you are interested in participating in the cost-sharing effort for this project or would like more information on the project, please contact the  Data Services GIS team at DSGIS@h-gac.com.
Save The Date!  September 18th - Brown Bag Lunch Series
H-GAC's Transportation Department will host the  Brown Bag Lunch Series on September 18th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. This month's presentation will feature a panel discussion on Union Pacific Railroad operations. Panelists will be Richard Zientek , UP Director of Public Affairs; Ryan Rosa , UP Conductor/Engineer; and Paul Rathgeber , UP Senior Manager of Industry & Public Projects. 

The panel will provide an overview of Union Pacific operations in the greater Houston region, an update on the Crossing Assessment Process, and railroad public safety. Bring your lunch and join us. The Brown Bag panel will take place at the H-GAC offices, 3555 Timmons Lane, Houston, TX  77027 on the 2nd Floor, Conference Room B.  This event is open to the public, so feel free to extend this invitation to others. Save The Date!  October 17th - Emergency Management & Evacuation
The University of Houston's Hobby School of Public Affairs will be hosting a panel discussion on  how local, state and national governments can coordinate to safely evacuate constituents, communicate breaking news and manage disasters on 
Tuesday, October 17 at the TDECU Stadium from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.   

Panelists will include:
  • Chief Nim Kidd of the Texas Division of Emergency Management
  • Francisco Sanchez of Judge Ed Emmett's office
  • Thomas Lambert, President and CEO of METRO, Board Chair at Transtar
Admission to the event is free of charge and open to the public.  A reception at 6:30 p.m. will follow the panel discussion.  All are welcome to attend.
