HAC Advocacy Update: Expedited Restart & Survival Funding

Dear Members,

In the weeks following the announcement of Budget 2021, HAC held consultations with its brand leaders and hotel owners to determine the next phase of advocacy work. Consensus was reached on two priorities:

An Expedited Restart: HAC will encourage the Government to expedite an international reopen plan and reframe the travel narrative.
Continued Survival Funding: HAC is actively analyzing the industry’s recovery and will be pushing Government on the need for continued sector-specific support programs for struggling industry segments.

We will share more details on these two pillars of work in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, HAC continues to voice these concerns with Government. Most notably, this week:

HAC joined the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and business leaders across Canada in a call for a clear plan to reopen the economy. Earlier this week, a letter authored by 60+ business organizations, was sent to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and appeared on the front page of the National Post .
I was invited to testify before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance on behalf of the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses. I recommended that the Government expedite a clear re-opening plan based on metrics and milestones and a sector-specific support program to assist with wages and fixed costs.
