Three Special Messages

Anthony Castaldo

HAEi Regional Patient Advocate for North America and HAEi President and CEO

On behalf of the HAEi Board of Directors and staff, I wish all of our HAE Canada friends a joyful and healthy holiday season. HAEi would like to congratulate Jacquie Badiou for her extraordinary leadership in dramatically improving the quality of life for Canadians suffering from HAE. HAEi leadership watched and learned as Jacquie showcased an uncanny ability to deftly navigate Canada’s complex and multi-layered health care system--often using original research to open doors and convince any doubters. The result of these efforts--approval and reimbursement of modern HAE medicines in Canada--ranks HAE Canada as one of HAEi’s most accomplished member organizations. HAEi looks forward to working with Jacquie in her new and important role as Past President.

Sincere congratulations to Michelle Cooper on becoming the new President! We are confident Michelle will work with the Past President to ensure the continuation of (1) building HAE Canada and (2) improving quality of life by winning approval and reimbursement for the next generation of HAE medicines.

Jacquie Badiou

Past President, HAE Canada

After being President of HAE Canada (HAEC) for over a decade, I am very excited to begin the Past-President role. I would like to thank all the members of HAEC, volunteers, past and present board members as well as all the HAE specialists for the great care they give. I have enjoyed meeting all the HAE patients and their families across Canada and Internationally. I am in awe with their resilience. Thank you for sharing your journey with me. A special thank you to Daphne Dumbrille (HAEC COO), her dedication, strong work ethics and ability to learn any skill quickly has made it an absolute pleasure working with her for over 5 years.

I am so pleased with our succession planning during the past three years thanks to Heather Dow from Events Management Plus, transitioning Michelle from Vice President to President. I am so happy she has agreed to start this year. She has the experience and character to lead this organization well. I wish her a very successful tenure over the next decade.

Last but not least, I would like to thank my entire family for all their support and encouragement during my tenure as President; especially my husband, Richard, for his unwavering time and commitment. I look forward to furthering research for HAE patients to improve their health by working with Richard on the CASP Foundation.

Michelle Cooper

President, HAE Canada

It is a great honour to be appointed President of HAEC by my fellow Board members. In my three years as a Board member I have been impressed with the commitment, the professionalism, the passion and deep care of our Board for our members and their families. Jacquie has led the Board with clear purpose, vision, and commitment to excellence as the National HAE Patient Organization. Through her leadership and with the support of our COO Daphne Dumbrille, Heather Dow of Events Management, and the many contributions of past and current Board members, we have strong governance structures and processes, excellent finances and HAEC is positioned and respected as one of the leading HAE patient organizations internationally.

HAE patients have many more choices of therapy and better quality of life. These are big shoes to fill! I appreciate the mentorship that Jacquie will be providing for me, having Daphne who is highly skilled (and very pleasant to work with) keep me on track and a great team of people on the Board and supporting the Board activities. Adding the Past-President role enables HAEC to focus on our international presence, provide continuity, and promote succession planning. I look forward to working with you at this very exciting time.
