HAMPTON ROADS CLOSURES ON WATER CROSSINGS, INTERSTATES AND OTHER NOTABLE DETOURS

For the week of Oct. 11-17

NOTE: This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.

*Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridges and Tunnels: 

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64: 

• Full directional closure of I-64 west from 4th View Street (exit 273) through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel continuously from 9 p.m. Oct. 9 to as late as 5 a.m. Oct. 12. • Additional full directional closures planned for tunnel repaving, with only one direction closed at a time. The list of all scheduled dates, alternate travel routes and updated information can be found at the project website.
• Alternating, single-lane closures eastbound Oct. 12-18 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.   
• Single-lane closure westbound Oct. 13 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project: 

• A series of intermittent stoppages from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
• I-64 west at the HRBT Oct. 11-12
• I-64 east from Willoughby Bay Bridge to 1st View Oct. 16-17
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions at the HRBT Oct. 12–16 from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m.  
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Willoughby Bay Bridge to Patrol Road Oct. 11-17 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m.
• Full ramp closures from as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.: 
• I-64 east off-ramp to Mallory Street (exit 268) Oct. 12-13
• Mallory Street on-ramp to I-64 east Oct. 14-16
• I-64 east off-ramp to 4th View Street (exit 273) Oct. 12-15
• 4th View Street on-ramp to I-64 east Oct. 12-15
• Continuous full ramp closure (24 hours) on I-64 W Bay Ave off-ramp (exit 274) beginning as early as 9 p.m. on Oct. 12 through late fall.
• Flagging on W. Bay Avenue 

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

• Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions Oct. 13-15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

James River Bridge, Route 17: 

• Single-lane closures northbound Oct. 12-16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
• Alternating, single-lane closures southbound Oct. 12-16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

George P. Coleman Bridge, Route 17: 

• Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions: 
• Oct. 12-17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  
• Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

Elizabeth River Crossings (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

• Go to DriveERC.com for scheduled closures on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64, Chesapeake: 

•  Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A): 
• Oct. 11 
• from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. 
• from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Oct. 12-17 from 11 p.m. to as late as 8 a.m. 

I-64 Gap Segment C Widening, James City County:

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from the New Kent County-James City County line to Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) Oct.11-16 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on Six Mount Zion Road in both directions Oct. 12-16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL):

• Continuously from 8 p.m. Oct. 10 until 3 a.m. Oct. 12  
• Oct. 11-16 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. 
• Oct. 12-16 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.    
• Continuously from 8 p.m. Oct. 16 until 3 a.m. Oct. 19 

I-64, Chesapeake Express Lanes:

• Full Express Lanes closures westbound between the High Rise Bridge and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) Oct. 11-17 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 10 a.m. 
• Full Express Lanes closures eastbound between Indian River Road (exit 286) and the I-64/I-464 interchange (exit 291) Oct. 12-14 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m.  

I-64, HREL Hampton 4C Project:

• Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A). 

I-64, HREL Norfolk 1A Project:

• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) continuously from as early as 7 p.m. Oct. 10 to 5 a.m. Oct. 12. (No eastbound work on Oct. 11 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.) 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-564 from I-64 to Terminal Boulevard:  
• Eastbound Oct. 11-15 from as early as 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
• Westbound Oct. 11-15 from as early as 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages along I-64 east between Granby Street (exit 276) and Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 279) Oct. 11-15 from as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) Oct. 11-15 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) continuously from as early as 7 p.m. Oct. 16 to 5 a.m. Oct. 19. (No eastbound work on Oct. 18 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.)

 I-64, HREL Newport News/Hampton 4A/4B Project:

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Oct. 11-16 from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Oct. 11-16 from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Denbigh Boulevard to Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) Oct. 11-16 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 east between Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) and I-664 and on I-64 west between I-664 and J. Clyde Morris Boulevard Oct. 11-16 from 1-4 a.m. 
• Full closure of the ramp from I-664 north to I-64 east Oct. 11-15 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 east off-ramp to southbound LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) Oct. 11-15 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the on-ramp from LaSalle Avenue to I-64 east Oct. 11-15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the on-ramp from Armistead Avenue to I-64 west Oct. 11-15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 west off-ramp to I-664 south (exit 264A) Oct. 11-15 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 west off-ramp to southbound LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) Oct. 11-15 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Long-term inside lane closure on I-64 in both directions between LaSalle Avenue and Denbigh Boulevard as crews prepare the lane for future Express Lanes operations. View the full traffic alert.

• Oct. 12-16 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Continuously from 5 a.m. Oct. 17 to 5 a.m. Oct. 18 
• Full ramp closures from I-464 south to I-64 east (exit 1B) Oct. 13-15 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

I-264, Portsmouth:

I-95, Sussex County: 

• A series of brief, intermittent stoppages on I-95 in both directions between Route 645 (exit 24) and Route 602 (exit 33) Oct. 16 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m.
