HAMPTON ROADS CLOSURES ON WATER CROSSINGS, INTERSTATES AND OTHER NOTABLE DETOURS

For the week of Oct. 18-24

NOTE: This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.

*Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridges and Tunnels: 

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64: 

• Full directional closure of I-64 east from Mallory Street (exit 268) through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to 4th View Street (exit 273) continuously from 9 p.m. Oct. 16 to as late as 5 a.m. Oct. 19. • Additional full directional closures planned for tunnel repaving, with only one direction closed at a time. The list of all scheduled dates, alternate travel routes and updated information can be found at the project website.
• Alternating, single-lane closures eastbound Oct. 19-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project: 

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions at the HRBT Oct. 19-23 from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m. 
• Series of intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions at the HRBT Oct. 19-23 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Willoughby Bay Bridge to Patrol Road Oct. 19-25 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m. 
• Full ramp closures from as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.:  
• I-64 east off-ramp to 4th View Street (exit 273) Oct. 19-23  
• I-64 east off-ramp at Mallory Street (exit 268) Oct. 20-21 
• I-64 west off-ramp to 4th View Street (exit 273) Oct. 20-23 
• Flagging at Mallory Street Bridge Oct. 20-21 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

• Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions Oct. 19-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures southbound Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

James River Bridge, Route 17: 

• Single-lane closure northbound Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
• Alternating, single-lane closures southbound Oct 21-23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
• Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: 
• Southbound Oct. 19 
• Northbound Oct. 20 

George P. Coleman Bridge, Route 17: 

• A series of brief intermittent stoppages in both directions Oct. 20 between 9 a.m. and noon. 

Elizabeth River Crossings (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

• Go to DriveERC.com for scheduled closures on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64, Chesapeake: 

• Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A): 
• Oct. 18 
• from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. 
• from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Oct. 19-24 from 11 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m. 
• Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 south (exit 291B) Oct. 19-22 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• A series of brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from Bowers Hill to High Rise Bridge: 
• Oct. 23 between 9-11 p.m.  
• Oct. 24-25 between 6-10 a.m.

I-64, Newport News:  

• A series of brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 west near Denbigh Boulevard Oct. 23-24 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

I-64 Gap Segment C Widening, James City County:

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from the New Kent County-James City County line to Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) Oct.18-23 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from the New Kent County-James City County line to Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) Oct. 18-24 from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m.  
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on Six Mount Zion Road in both directions Oct. 19-23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL):

I-64, Chesapeake Express Lanes:

• Full Express Lanes closures westbound between the High Rise Bridge and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) Oct. 18-24 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 10 a.m. 
• Full Express Lanes closures in both directions between the I-264/I-664 Bowers Hill interchange (exit 299) and the High Rise Bridge: 
• Oct. 23 from 9-11 p.m. 
• Oct. 24-25 from 2-10 a.m. 

I-64, HREL Hampton 4C Project:

• Alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 west on Willoughby Bay Bridge from 4th View Street (exit 273) to 15th View Street (exit 272) Oct. 19-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A). 

I-64, HREL Norfolk 1A Project:

• Continuous full on-ramp closure from Bayville Street to I-64 east from 9 p.m. Oct. 16 until 5 a.m. Oct. 19. 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-564 from I-64 to Terminal Boulevard:  
• Eastbound Oct. 19-23 from as early as 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
• Westbound Oct. 19-23 from as early as 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages along I-64 in both directions between Granby Street (exit 276) and Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) Oct. 19-23 from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 8 a.m.

• Single-lane closures on I-64 east on Willoughby Bay Bridge from 15th View Street (exit 272) to 4th View Street (exit 273) Oct. 19-23 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 279) Oct. 19-23 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) continuously from as early as 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 to 5 a.m. on Oct. 26 
• Long-term full on-ramp closure from southbound Tidewater Drive to I-64 east with new left turn at Thole Street to access I-64 east. 

 I-64, HREL Newport News/Hampton 4A/4B Project:

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Oct. 19-22 from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Oct. 19-22 from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Denbigh Boulevard to Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) Oct. 18-25 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from Denbigh Boulevard to Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) Oct. 18-25 from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the ramp from I-664 north to I-64 east Oct. 19-22 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 east off-ramp to southbound LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) Oct. 19-22 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the on-ramp from LaSalle Avenue to I-64 east Oct. 19-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the on-ramp from Armistead Avenue to I-64 west Oct. 19-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 west off-ramp to I-664 south (exit 264A) Oct. 19-22 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 west off-ramp to southbound LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) Oct. 19-22 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Single-lane closure on I-64 east and brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 west between LaSalle Avenue and the Hampton River Bridge Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon.
