HAMPTON ROADS CLOSURES ON WATER CROSSINGS, INTERSTATES AND OTHER NOTABLE DETOURS

For the week of Oct. 4-10

NOTE: This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.


*Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridges and Tunnels: 


Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64: 

  • Full directional closure of I-64 west from 4th View Street (exit 273) through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel continuously from 9 p.m. Oct. 2 to as late as 5 a.m. Oct. 5.   • Additional full directional closures planned for tunnel repaving, with only one direction closed at a time. The list of all scheduled dates, alternate travel routes and updated information can be found at the project website.
  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions Oct. 5-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.   


Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project: 

  • Full ramp closures from as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.:  
  • W. Bay Avenue on-ramp to I-64 east Oct. 5-8 
  • 4th View Street on-ramp to I-64 east Oct. 5-8 
  • I-64 east off-ramp at Mallory Street (exit 268) Oct. 7-8 
  • Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions at the HRBT Oct. 5-9* from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m. 
  • Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions Oct. 5-10* from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m. between Willoughby Bay Bridge and Patrol Road 
  • A series of intermittent stoppages on I-64 westbound between Mason Creek and 1st View Street Oct. 5-9* from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.  
  • (*Closures on Oct. 9, 10 will only take place if westbound HRBT is not closed for paving operations) 
  • Flagging at Mallory Street Bridge Oct. 7-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 


Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions Oct. 5-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures northbound Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  


James River Bridge, Route 17: 

  • Single-lane closure northbound Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 


Elizabeth River Crossings (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

  • Go to DriveERC.com for scheduled closures on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64, Chesapeake: 

  • Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A): 
  • Oct. 4 
  • from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. 
  • from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Oct. 5-9 from 11 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m. 
  • Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 south (exit 291B) Oct. 5-6 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full ramp closures from I-64 west to I-464 north (exit 291A) Oct. 7-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

I-64 Gap Segment C Widening, James City County:

  • Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from the New Kent County-James City County line to Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) Oct. 4-10 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m. 
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on Six Mount Zion Road in both directions Oct. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL): 

I-64, Norfolk Reversible Express Lanes:

  • Full closure in both directions: 
  • Continuously from 8 p.m. Oct. 2 until 3 a.m. Oct. 5  
  • Oct. 4-Oct. 8 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.   
  • Oct. 5-9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.   
  • Continuously from 8 p.m. Oct. 9 until 3 a.m. Oct. 12 

I-64, Chesapeake Express Lanes:

  • Full Express Lanes closures westbound between the High Rise Bridge and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) Oct. 4-10 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 10 a.m. 

I-64, HREL Hampton 4C Project:

  • Full ramp closures on I-64 Oct. 4-10 from as early as 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Non-conflicting ramp closures may be in place concurrently):     
  • On-ramp from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road to I-64 west   
  • Off-ramp from I-64 east to Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267)   
  • On-ramp from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road to I-64 east   
  • Off-ramp from I-64 west to Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267)   
  • Alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Mallory Street (exit 268) to LaSalle Avenue (exit 265) Oct. 4-10 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.   
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions between Mallory Street (exit 268) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265) Oct. 5-11 between 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m.   
  •  Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A). 

I-64, HREL Norfolk 1A Project:

  • Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) continuously from as early as 7 p.m. Oct. 2 to 5 a.m. Oct. 5. (No eastbound work on Oct. 4 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.) 
  • Alternating single-lane closures on I-564 from I-64 to Terminal Boulevard: 
  • Eastbound Oct. 4-9 from as early as 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Westbound Oct. 4-9 from as early as 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. 
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages along I-64 east between Granby Street (exit 276) and Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 279) Oct. 4-9 from as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.  
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages along I-64 west between Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 279) and Granby Street (exit 276) Oct. 4-10 from as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full ramp closures from I-564 east to I-64 in both directions Oct. 4-9 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full off-ramp closures from I-64 west to Granby Street (exit 276A) Oct. 4-9 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
  • Full on-ramp closures from Patrol Road to I-64 east Oct. 4-9 from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
  • Full off-ramp closures from I-64 west to Tidewater Drive (exits 277A and 277B) Oct. 4-10 from as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full off-ramp closures from I-64 east to Tidewater Drive (exits 277A and 277B) Oct. 4-9 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
  • Full on-ramp closures on Tidewater Drive in both directions to I-64 west Oct. 4-9 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
  • Full on-ramp closures on Tidewater Drive in both directions to I-64 east Oct. 4-9 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
  • Full off-ramp closures from I-64 west to Little Creek Road (exit 276C) Oct. 4-10 from as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full off-ramp closures from I-564 east to Little Creek Road (exit 4) Oct. 4 -9 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full on-ramp closures from Little Creek Road to I-64 east Oct. 4-9 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
  • Single-lane closures on I-64 east on the Willoughby Bay Bridge from 15th View Street (exit 272) to 4th View Street (exit 273) Oct. 5-8 from as early as 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) Oct. 5-8 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) continuously from as early as 7 p.m. Oct. 9 to 5 a.m. Oct. 12. (No eastbound work on Oct. 11 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.) 
  • Long-term full on-ramp closure from southbound Tidewater Drive to I-64 east with new left turn at Thole Street to access I-64 east. 

 I-64, HREL Newport News/Hampton 4A/4B Project:

  • Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Oct. 4-11 from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Oct. 4-11, from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
  • Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Denbigh Boulevard to Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) Oct. 4-11 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 east between Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) and I-664 and on I-64 west between I-664 and J. Clyde Morris Boulevard Oct. 4-11 from 1-4 a.m. 
  • Full closure of the off-ramp from I-64 east to southbound LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) Oct. 4-11 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full closure of the on-ramp from LaSalle Avenue to I-64 east Oct. 4-11 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full closure of the on-ramp from LaSalle Avenue to I-64 east Oct. 4-11 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full closure of the ramp from I-664 north to I-64 east Oct. 5-9 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full closure of the on-ramp from Armistead Avenue to I-64 west Oct. 5-9 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full closure of the I-64 west ramp to I-664 south (exit 264A) Oct. 5-11 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Long-term inside lane closure on I-64 in both directions between LaSalle Avenue and Denbigh Boulevard as crews prepare the lane for future Express Lanes operations. View the full traffic alert.

  • Oct. 5-10 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Oct. 5-9 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Continuously from 5 a.m. Oct. 10 to 5 a.m. Oct. 11 
  • Full ramp closures from I-464 north to I-64 east (exit 1) Oct. 5-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Full ramp closures from I-464 south to I-64 west (exit 1A) Oct. 7-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-464 south between Military Highway (exit 2) and I-64 interchange (exit 1) Oct. 6-7 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

I-664, Newport News: 

  • Full off-ramp closures from I-664 in both directions to Warwick Boulevard (exit 5) Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to noon.  

 

 I-664, Hampton:  

  • Full off-ramp closure from I-664 south to Powhatan Parkway (exit 2) Oct. 4 from 7-11:15 a.m. 

I-264, Portsmouth: 

Intermodal Connector, Norfolk:

  • Full off-ramp closures of the Intermodal Connector west ramp to Seabee Road Oct. 5-9 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
