HAMPTON ROADS CLOSURES ON WATER CROSSINGS, INTERSTATES AND OTHER NOTABLE DETOURS

For the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3

NOTE: This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.

*Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridges and Tunnels: 

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64: 

• Alternating, single-lane closures eastbound Sept. 28-Oct. 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project: 

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Willoughby Bay Bridge to Patrol Road Sept. 27-Oct. 3 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. 
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions at the HRBT Sept. 28-Oct. 2 from as early as 9 p.m. to as late as 9 a.m.   
• A series of intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions between Mallory Street (exit 268) and HRBT Sept. 28-Oct. 2 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.  
• Full ramp closures from as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.:  
• I-64 west off-ramp to W. Bay Avenue (exit 274) Sept. 28-Oct. 4  
• I-64 east off-ramp at Mallory Street (exit 268) Sept. 28, Oct. 1 
• W. Bay Avenue on-ramp to I-64 east Sept. 28-Oct. 2 
• I-64 east off-ramp to 4th View Street Sept. 28-Oct. 3 

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

• Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions Sept. 28-Oct. 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

James River Bridge, Route 17: 

• Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions Sept. 28-30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

George P. Coleman Bridge, Route 17: 

• Single-lane closures northbound Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
• A series of test openings Sept. 29 between 7-8 p.m.  

Elizabeth River Crossings (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

I-64, Chesapeake: 

• Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A): 
• Sept. 27 
• from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. 
• from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Sept. 28-Oct. 2 from 11 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m. 
• Full ramp closures from I-64 east to I-464 south (exit 291B):

I-64 Gap Segment C Widening, James City County:

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from the New Kent County-James City County line to Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) Sept. 27-Oct. 2 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m. 
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on Six Mount Zion Road in both directions Sept. 28-Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL):

I-64, Chesapeake Express Lanes:

• Full Express Lanes closures westbound between the High Rise Bridge and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) Sept. 27-Oct. 3 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 10 a.m. 
• Alternating, mobile Express Lanes closures in both directions between I-264 (exit 284) and Indian River Road (exit 286) Sept. 27-29 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating, mobile Express Lanes closures eastbound between Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) and the High Rise Bridge Sept. 27-29 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Full Express Lanes closures eastbound between Indian River Road (exit 286) and the High Rise Bridge Sept. 29 from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. 

I-64, HREL Hampton 4C Project:

• Full ramp closures on I-64 Sept. 27-Oct. 3 from as early as 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Non-conflicting ramp closures may be in place concurrently):    
• Off-ramp from I-64 west to Armistead Avenue/LaSalle Avenue (exit 265B)  
• Off-ramp from I-64 east to Rip Rap Road, Armistead Avenue/Langley AFB (exit 265C)  
• On-ramp from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road to I-64 west  
• Off-ramp from I-64 east to Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267)  
• On-ramp from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road to I-64 east  
• Off ramp from I-64 west to Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267)  
• Alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Mallory Street (exit 268) to LaSalle Avenue (exit 265) Sept. 27-Oct. 3 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.  
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions between Mallory Street (exit 268) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265) Sept. 28-Oct. 4 between 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m.  
• Full closure of I-64 east between Rip Rap Road (exit 265C) and Settlers Landing/Woodland Road (exit 267) Sept. 30 (backup dates Oct. 1-2) between 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m., with signed detours in place. 
• Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A). 

I-64, HREL Norfolk 1A Project:

• Alternating single-lane closures on I-564 from I-64 to Terminal Boulevard: 
• Eastbound Sept. 27-Oct. 2 from as early as 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
• Westbound Sept. 27-Oct. 2 from as early as 9 a.m. to 4 a.m.

• Single-lane closures on I-64 east on the Willoughby Bay bridge from 15th View Street (exit 272) to 4th View Street (exit 273) Sept. 28-Oct. 1 from as early as 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) Sept. 28-Oct. 1 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Granby Street (exit 276) to Chesapeake Boulevard (exit 278) continuously from as early as 7 p.m. Oct. 2 to 5 a.m. Oct. 5. (No eastbound work on Oct. 4 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.)

• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from I-664 to Rip Rap Road Sept. 27-Oct. 3 from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from Denbigh Boulevard to Mercury Boulevard (exit 263) Sept. 27-Oct. 4 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the ramp from I-664 north to I-64 east Sept. 27-Oct. 4 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the ramp from Armistead Avenue to I-64 west Sept. 27-Oct. 4 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 west ramp to I-664 south (exit 264A) Sept. 27-Oct. 4 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m. 
• Full closure of the I-64 west off-ramp to southbound LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) Sept. 27-Oct. 4 from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m.
