What: Mr. Miller and his attorneys will speak with members of the media about the civil rights lawsuit he is filing against Pushmataha County Sheriff B.J. Hedgecock, Pushmataha County Deputy Keith Knoll, Pushmataha County Deputy Brian Columbus, and Pushmataha County Deputy Timothy Steely for the wrongful death of Mr. Miller’s brother, Hank Miller. Hank Miller was unarmed when he was shot multiple times and killed by Deputy Knoll on May 30, 2021. Due to the egregiousness of the violations of Hank Miller’s civil rights, the lawsuit also seeks punitive damages.
When: May 26, 2022, at 1:00pm CDT
Where: The Root Coworking, LLC
110 S. Hartford Ave., Ste. 100, Tulsa, OK 74120
Why: The lawsuit stems from the unjustified shooting death of Hank Miller that occurred on May 30, 2021. Hank Miller, a disabled veteran, was pulled over on a rural road by Pushmataha County Deputies Keith Knoll and Brian Columbus for an obscured licensed plate. Mr. Miller provided his ID card to Deputy Knoll and stated that he was heading home and would “see them at the house”. Mr. Miller followed all traffic laws on the short drive to his own property. When he parked, both deputies ran towards Mr. Miller’s vehicle. Deputy Columbus violently pulled Mr. Miller’s passenger out of the vehicle by her hair, and Deputy Knoll opened fire on Mr. Miller, without any justification. Hank Miller suffered more than 8 gunshot wounds, which caused his death.
Deputies Knoll and Columbus, along with Deputy Timothy Steely who arrived on scene as the shooting occurred, failed to render any first aid to Mr. Miller following the shooting.
