DEADLINE IS MIDNIGHT TONIGHT

DEADLINE IS MIDNIGHT TONIGHT for ArtSouth Installations No. 2 & No. 3

heya fence-sitters,

we'd like to offer you a few words of advice about applying.
  • Don't sweat the small stuff.  If your resume isn't up to date NO BIG DEAL. Send us what you have. If your not a great illustrator, don't obsess over the illustrations for your project but instead, use whatever means you can to best show us visually what you are proposing.  The quality of your illustration isn't critical, but what is critical is conveying your concept effectively.  HATE WRITING? Don't labor over wordsmithing your artist statement or project description.  Give us a general idea of who you are, how you work and what your vision is for the proposed ArtSouth exhibition.
  • Not a computer whiz? We can help!  If you're needing technical assistance with the application we are happy to oblige. Scanning files, changing file formats, uploading documents.  Megan is available to work through the application if you need it. Simply text 817-966-1880 to let me know when you would like to drop by the office for help.
  • Don't forget to SUBMIT.  The application allows you to start and then over time return to your application to revise and review.
  • YOU CAN DO THIS!  Someone, in fact TWO someones, copied on this email will be awarded $4,000 each for their projects.  MAKE THAT PERSON YOU BY APPLYING
About ArtSouth
The Near Southside has long been the residential and professional nerve center of much of Fort Worth's creative class.  Artists of all ilks have been, and continue to be, critical partners in the revitalization of the district by locating their studios, galleries, professional offices and projects in pioneering areas of the Near Southside. Currently 60 creative firms, galleries, and studios are headquartered here, and many more are looking for opportunities to join the excitement and energy of Fort Worth's premier creative district.

As demand for property in the district rises, many question how the Near Southside will continue to embrace artists.  Will the district preserve affordable and desirable workspaces?  Will new developments incorporate art into their designs? Can we attract innovative public art concepts?

More than ever, there is a hunger for public art in the Near Southside. Artists are eager for opportunity. The Near Southside community is intent on finding creative solutions.  ArtSouth is just that.

ArtSouth is an innovative artist residency program offering studio and public art exhibition space to selected artists. The program will offer these artists the unique opportunity to further experiment and expand their studio art practice while directly engaging the Near Southside community.  One artist will be selected each quarter to serve as the ArtSouth resident artist.

Selected artists will be awarded:
  • $4,000 stipend to create a temporary public art exhibition
  • A one month residency in a Near Southside temporary studio space, if needed.
  • A one month exhibition in the ArtSouth Exhibition Space
  • Promotional support from Near Southside, Inc.
ArtSouth is specifically looking for artists whose works and studio practices will engage our community in meaningful conversations.  Artists are encouraged to submit a project proposal that, if selected, will utilize both the studio and exhibition spaces to initiate dialogue about the importance of community, art, or other matters related to the Near Southside's revitalization.

ArtSouth artists will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of local artists, property owners, and arts professionals who have an interest in bringing temporary public art to the Near Southside.  There is no fee to apply and artists working in all mediums are accepted.

THE O'S  FEATURING : HOLY MOLY

The O's
Anyone who has seen The O's perform one of their trademark shows featuring off-the-cuff Smothers Brothers-style banter mixing smoothly with their brand of stomping roots-rock knows that such a self-deprecating response makes perfect sense. Certainly, the thousands of CDs represent the band and business' future. But it's just one more step for a band that has taken many already.

Holy Moly! is an American cowpunk band from Fort Worth, Texas. The band is the brainchild of frontman Joe Rose and guitarist Danny Weaver. The two started Holy Moly in 2005. Shortly after the forming they released their self-titled first LP, "Holy Moly." The record garnered attention in DFW and beyond affording them the opportunities to play a multitude of shows across Texas while building a grassroots fan base every step of the way.

That fan base included a number of talented musicians, two of which joined the band in time to record the second album, "Drinkin' Druggin' and Lovin'". The addition of Jeremy Hull on upright bass and Joe Carpenter on drums kicked the songs into high gear, and "Drinkin' Druggin' and Lovin'" was voted Album of the Year in the Fort Worth Music Awards. In 2011, Holy Moly took home the award for Best Live Band and Best Bassist (Jeremy Hull). In 2012, they were voted Best Live Band, Song of the Year (The Mustache Song), and Album of the Year (Grasshopper Cowpunk).

In 2009 Holy Moly took their special brand of mayhem on the road, touring through Texas and Louisiana. In the summer of 2009 Holy Moly hopped the pond and spent three weeks playing Belgium and Holland with Surfing Airlines productions. Time on the road lead to more new songs, and upon their return to the States Holy Moly recorded and released their third album, "Clickity Clack", a raucous collection of high-energy tunes that features even tighter arrangements and more of Joe Rose's signature storytelling lyrics. The enthusiastic reception lead to bigger shows playing in front of bigger crowds, with Holy Moly opening for bands like Bowling For Soup, Flickerstick, Reverend Horton heat, Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats, Two Tons of Steel and Bob Schneider

It's these audiences that help define Holy Moly's identity. Shows are bombastic, goofy, and fun for everyone. Holy Moly's lyrics weave a mysterious montage of zombies, one legged adulterers, and all the alcohol and drugs a healthy young person can handle. It's rock and roll in its most honest form with a honky tonk needle helping it slide right into your heart and soul. What's this needle, you might ask? This needle is the vehicle in which HM inserts its message, wraps it up and then lets it roll out all over the listener's car stereo or beer drenched bar stool.

Lee Atwater, George H. W. Bush's main political advisor, was no stranger to controversy. From his early days learning the ropes from Strom Thurmond, to introducing Reagan to the power of MTV, to his successful direction of Bush's 1988 presidential campaign (including the notorious Willie Horton ads), Atwater was simultaneously reviled and revered -- depending on whether he was on your side or not. A one-man tour de force about an immensely clever, wickedly funny, and ruthless kingmaker's journey -- from blues-loving frat boy to brain cancer victim confronting a lifetime of Machiavellian tactics.
