This rainy, dreary day made it very difficult to get up and come to work this morning. As I laid in bed thinking about how nice it would be to stay in my jammies and watch movies, I realized how much I love my job at SMA. That love comes from the wonderful people that I am surrounded by at work. Our teamwork has made an impact in the lives of our students and colleagues.

It is so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and the end of the semester, but it is an excellent opportunity to take the time to reflect on the joys and blessings that are all around us. I am truly blessed to have each and every one of you to work with. You push me to grow and improve, and for that I am forever grateful.

Many of you know I am a crier, so I will keep it short and sweet. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Enjoy your friends, families, and simple things in life!

Cheers to rest and relaxation!

Assistant Head of School

Good evening SMA!

Can you believe our first semester has ended? Wow! As I reflect on this semester, I can’t help but remember how I felt the first day I came to SMA. I knew in my heart that I was in the right place at the right time. As many of you know, I relocated to Florida in July with my children. We knew that moving was not going to be easy, but it was the right call for us and we have no regrets.
The best thing is that we feel we have joined a beautiful and big family here at SMA. I wanted to let you all know that I am beyond grateful as working with all of you has made our lives better. I am so honored to work with such amazing people. You are all truly blessed and you have blessed our lives tremendously!

Confucius once said,“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” That’s how I feel! This is not just a job for me. I truly love what I do, especially if I get to positively impact people’s lives on a daily basis. Plus, we have the best SMA Team ever! Together we will continue to make a difference in our community.

So, THANK YOU for making us feel welcome and know that I appreciate each and every one of you. Have a rested and wonderful holiday break and a happy new year. You deserve it!

Eagle Nation!

Changing a culture takes a village! We have been very fortunate at SMA that our Administrative and Coaching personnel are all on the same page! We are all about developing & promoting academic excellence as well as instilling a passion for the sports we play. I could not be more proud of our Coaches and Athletes for their exemplary performances.

Volleyball has accomplished more this season than they have in the last two. Cross Country is gaining momentum and improving every race. Both Golf teams made appearances in Regionals and the Girls made it as a team for the first time. Girls Basketball got off to a 4-0 start and staying very competitive. Boys Basketball is staying vigilant and the turning point is not far off. Boys and Girls Soccer have their moments of valor and great goals, they are staying strong. Wrestling has an influx of new talent that is grinding it out and the veterans are leading the way!

We have proven we are learning, gaining skills, promoting sportsmanship and giving back to our community exceedingly well! Sports provide an outstanding opportunity to gain life skills and here at SMA we are Flying as One and holding our own! I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday to appreciate family, rest, heal and reflect on all that you have accomplished and made all of us here at SMA very proud!

The offices will open and classes will resume

A HUGE Thank You to everyone from the Prep and the high school who donated toys and bikes for our Toys for Tots Drive! We had tons of toys and 21 bikes! Wow! Thank you so much for making the holidays that much better for so many children!

Students in SMA-MAJ Lyon's Drawing class learned how information was shared before cell phones. They researched Medieval Illuminated Letters and learned how everything had to be handwritten, usually by monks and clergy and passed along to others. This was also why books were cherished items, usually only available to the rich. Every book was handwritten and drawn. Many times, the beginning letter was a decorative illustration hence, Illuminated Letter. The students then designed and decorated their own version of a Medieval Letter.

The SMA December 13th, 2018 Assembly on Youth Mental Health  was very informative. Many students asked very interesting questions to the speakers.

We had representatives from the Sandy Hook Promise Project discussing prevention of gun violence in schools. The representatives from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) shared the impact of mental health in peoples' lives and how to manage the symptoms. We also heard the resources/services available from the YMCA Family & Children services, Suncoast Behavioral Healthcare, and Reach out Recovery. . . Check out the pictures!
