Dear Members,
It's somehow already January again! We sincerely want to thank all of the The Women’s Fund members who renewed or joined this past year and made 2019 a successful year. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to grant $35,000 to local organizations helping our community; to date, we have now granted over $335,000!
We will continue our efforts to improve the lives of women and their families throughout 2020.
Best Regards and Happy New Year!

The Women's Fund granted $20,000 to
California Heritage YouthBuild Academy (CHYBA)
in 2018 to fund a Job Development Trainer position with the goal of connecting female students to work opportunities, assisting with programming, and providing transportation.
|
|
|
Thanks to the grant, CHYBA was able to hire Dena Ostendorf as Job Development Trainer. Dena performs a multitude of tasks which benefit the students at CHYBA, but one of the most important is transportation, as many students have no transportation of their own. Dena has helped transport students to a number of activities including meetings at the SMART Center, job fairs and educational training events, the DMV and the Social Security office, and even to businesses for job interviews and application drop-offs. Dena is well known to often go for a walk with students when they may feel overwhelmed and just need to talk to someone.
THANK YOU CHYBA for championing youth in our community! THANK YOU members – your contributions make a real difference!
As individuals, few of us could hope to make a donation this large, but by coming together, by pooling our resources, we can make a huge impact! This is the power of collective philanthropy... together we can do SO MUCH!

"By working together, women are unarguably the most powerful force on Earth and I love being even a small part of that collective effort to help each other, standing with other women as they face challenges, and lifting up children who need a hand"
|

|
I grew up in Redding, attending Manzanita Elementary School, Sequoia Junior High, and Shasta High School. After my first marriage and the birth of my son, I left Redding in my twenties. I spent most of those years in Seattle, with stops in Santa Barbara and Monterey. During that time I was a news reporter, not realizing I was also collecting information on the human condition along the way. After nearly forty years away from Redding, it was time to return home to take care of my aging father and step-mother, and to enjoy time with my son, his beautiful wife, and their son.

My cousin, Anne Peterson, told me about The Women’s Fund, about her dream, and her efforts to make a difference in the lives of local women and their families. Her enthusiasm and dedication to bettering her town led me to begin unpacking all that dusty journalism experience, that information gathered from the field of life. Now I'm putting it to good use in assisting and supporting the women of my community who, through circumstances often beyond their control, are not at the place in life they want to be. They may need a high school diploma, help getting a job, or even a pair of shoes… and The Women’s Fund can help.
By working together, women are unarguably the most powerful force on Earth and I love being even a small part of that collective effort to help each other, standing with other women as they face challenges, and lifting up children who need a hand. How could there be more gratifying work? How can we have community without it? I’m happy to be back in Redding, and happier still to contribute to the lives of my neighbors.
