Dear Members & Friends of HAR:
I am a local girl to my office and market, having grown up in Amboy and graduating from Amboy High School. After attending and graduating from SVCC I ventured to UIC to experience the big city. I certainly fell in love with all the city has to offer, but even when a position in the CPG marketing arena posed itself to me I continued to call Amboy my home and merely commuted downtown daily. When the 4-5 hour commute lost its luster I was left wondering “what do I do now?” and worked in a couple of different fields for about 3 years. Then a family friend asked me if I would be interested in selling real estate at Woodhaven. Even though I had never thought of it previously I enrolled back at SVCC, obtained my license and here I am now.
Woodhaven Lakes Realty, Inc. is a unique office in that the majority of our transactions are dealing with recreational property and within Woodhaven Lakes, a privately owned camping facility. So being in our own little section in the southern corner HAR jurisdiction, had left me often wondering about how the other half (or 9/10) work. I had the rest of Lee County, Whiteside, throughout southern Ogle and up to northern DeKalb to explore. My initial interest went out to Heather as an “I’m not sure that I ready for the board, but if there is a committee position or something I could help with let me know”. I was encouraged from there to apply for one of the current open seats as the board is always looking for representations throughout our wide spread offices. So I applied and became one of those diverse representatives, now among HomeTowns of Amboy, Chicago, DeKalb, Kirkland, Lily Lake, Loves Park, Rochelle, Rock Falls and Sycamore.
The past three years have been a great opportunity for growth and education in better understanding how our association is run and works to help all brokers thrive, from the local to state and even national levels. I have been able to better understand the needs, conditions and commitments other brokers and offices have and what we can do as a board to support and assist them. I feel more confident in my own position now by being able to better encourage and support my own staff and hopefully our membership as a whole. I am very appreciative of the time I have spent with HomeTown Association of REALTORS®, and look forward to many years of service to come. The Nominating process is open to join our Directors TODAY!
