Don was born April 23, 1929 in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, Canada, to Ernest Joel Evason and Bertha Irene Evason (nee’ Hineline). He grew up in the railroad town of Transcona, Manitoba. Don attended college and university in Manitoba and taught school for several years. He met and married Fairlie Stirling Jamieson in 1961, and attended and graduated from Union Theological Seminary in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1964. ..." Read more.

Soroptimist International Live Your Dream Award
The Live Your Dream Award is given to a woman who is the main provider for her family and is enrolled in a program to improve her life through education or training. The Hagerstown Soroptimist Club gives the winner an award of $1,000 and her application goes on to the regional competition where there are more cash awards for the winners. Please carefully complete the financial section and also take time to explain your story. It is also important to carefully select references. Teachers, counselors, and employers are some suggestions. In recent years two local winners have earned second place at the regional level earning an additional $3000.  The deadline for applying is November 15. Application & Guidelines.
Spread the Word! Police Officers Wanted for HPD
The Hagerstown Police Department is asking for the assistance of churches and organizations in encouraging individuals to apply to become police officers. HPD typically has openings and is anticipating a higher need for more. They are especially hopeful to increase the number of qualified minority and female candidates. HPD offers a variety of opportunities including patrol, K-9, investigations, other specialized units, and supervision and management. Interested candidates can visit the HPD website for more info and an application. Faith/community leaders with suggestions and recommendations for recruitment or opportunities to speak to your congregation can contact Chief of Police Paul Kifer directly.
Maryland Homeowners Assistance Fund
The state of Maryland recently launched the Homeowner Assistance Fund through the Department of Housing and Community Development. The program provides residential mortgage assistance and other home-ownership related financial assistance to Maryland homeowners who have experienced a hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Homeowners may receive grants up to $20,000 to avoid imminent displacement due to property tax delinquency, water fee delinquency, or mortgage delinquency, among many other reasons for displacement. Online applications can be completed at Funds are limited so it is encouraged to apply soon.
"Welcome Friends Mission" - help wanted for Afghan refugee family
Please join Trinity Lutheran Church in their new mission of welcoming to our community Malalai and Mustafa Nawabi and their three small sons: Maheer (6), Mehram (3), and Maher Tash (1). They fled Afghanistan in August of 2021 as the Taliban took control of their country, literally leaving behind all their possessions and their extended family in order to provide a safer, more just environment for their children. Liberation, Inc. seeks financial support for "Bridges" program
Liberation, Inc.'s Bridges by Liberation program aims to expose at-risk youth to opportunities beyond their local community, through field trips, mentoring, education, enrichment activities, etc., to foster well-rounded, successful youth and adults. This summer, founders Fred & Bria Chavis are taking children on various field trips to expand their horizons. The next trip is to Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary this Saturday, August 6. Economic Development Survey
The Tri-County Council for Western MD invites you to complete the following survey that will allow your input to be used to create our 5-year economic development strategy. This survey is only released once every five years, and the important information you are providing will help guide Federal funding to the most needed projects in Western Maryland. Please click on this survey link to complete the survey.
