HARC received $30,000 Reparations Grant from Episcopal Diocese

A huge thank you to the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland for investing $30,000 of their Reparation Grant fund in two of HARC's racial Justice initiatives - the Washington County Black Professionals Network and the Equity in Education Scholarship. We are extremely grateful for the Episcopal Diocese’ support of these efforts to foster diverse teachers and economic prosperity for African Americans in Washington County, MD. Photo: Father Todd Young and Tania Anderson represent HARC's board and Racial Justice Team to accept the award.

For the first half, Rabbi Mark is joined by fellow Hagerstown Area Religious Council members Rev. Jonathan Harris and Ashlee Harris of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They talk names and assumptions about members of their faith as well as their community and charity work. HARC Hike for Hunger & Hope - June 10

4K, 10K & half marathon walk/hike/run: Saturday, June 10 at Shepherd's Spring Camp & Retreat Center


Participants can look forward to scenic views, water & Gatorade refills along the way, a delicious lunch and fellowship, and supporting a great cause. Prizes for top fundraising teams and individuals, nature & bird scavenger hunts, and more. All proceeds benefit HARC and the MIcah's Backpack program. More info. Good Shepherd Ministries space available

The Good Shepherd Ministries is looking to utilize their spacious building, more fully. The building has a large sanctuary, a fully equipped kitchen, large recreational space, multiple children’s education rooms, and 2 nurseries. Summer VBS & Children's activities calendars UPDATED! (more activities wanted)

HARC is once again working with area congregations and children's organizations to compile a monthly (June-August) calendar of free and low-cost VBS & summer activities for children and families. You can find the most recently updated versions of the calendars HERE Note that the June calendar has been updated. Volunteers for Downtown Events Needed

Volunteering is an excellent way to learn more about all of Downtown Hagerstown's programming, connect with staff and volunteers, and to give back to your community. Free Youth Mental Health First Aid Program - May 25

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is an 8 hour program designed to teach adults how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions related challenge or crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD) and eating disorders. Learn more or REGISTER. Is there a book that has inspired you? the Interfaith Team of HARC is offering “Print & Potluck,” a book club with NO REQUIRED READING! We’ll gather outdoors at a private home in the Hagerstown area, and share what book—prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction—has inspired us individually. A book that has moved us to think, learn, feel, relax, or do. Come with or without the actual book (but with title and author), and with finger food to share. Free Play Hard Live Clean Event & Vendors Wanted - June 9

The Hagerstown Area Police Athletic League (PAL) is hosting their next Play Hard Live Clean event in partnership with the Washington County Health Department and is open to Washington County students and their families. School aged youth that pledge to be drug, tobacco and alcohol free will be eligible to receive a full skateboard (while supplies last) and other items that they will get to design on-site. Special guest speaker and the folks from the Skate-Everything School from NYC will be on hand to do lessons and provide education. WCHD will also be doing a vape take-back that day, open to all ages. Will you join them as a vendor? Vendors will be set-up on the hockey rink and are asked to arrive no later than 4:00 pm. Please bring your own table, chairs, and pop-up tents. HARC is partnering with the Doleman Black Heritage Museum (event leader), Washington County Library, The City of Hagerstown, and many other organizations to celebrate Juneteenth! Friday will include education and music. Saturday there will be a Believer's Unity Walk at 10:00 am, HARC will have a table from 10-3 with 5 houses of worship hosting for an hour, there will be programs and children's games and activities throughout the area.
