“Restaurant raises money to help with Salvation Army center fire”

“The Grille at Runways, located at Rider Jet Center at Hagerstown Regional Airport, held a benefit over the weekend to help the local Salvation Army, raising $700.

On March 13, a devastating fire destroyed the Salvation Army Thrift Store. The store was the main source of revenue for the local Salvation Army’s efforts. Last year, revenue from the thrift store helped the Salvation Army provide assistance to more than 41,000 people and prepare more than 27,000 meals for people in need.” Donate.

“In 1838, Missouri’s governor issued an executive order declaring that Mormons should be exterminated or driven from the state. A military tribunal ruled that Joseph Smith, the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), should be executed. Missouri Militia General Alexander Doniphan, recognizing the court-martial was illegal, refused to carry out the order, calling it “cold-blooded murder.” Doniphan wasn’t LDS but was willing to stand up for the civil liberties of a group whose beliefs he did not share.”

Halfway African American Cemetery Grounds

The Friends of Halfway African American Cemetery will host their 5th Annual Roots & Stones event. Highlights: Guided cemetery stories tours, light refreshments, silent auction, and speakers. Silent Auction Items: If any member or congregation is interested in donating an item to the silent auction, they can reach out directly to board member Taj Smith at tajnsmith@gmail.com.

Founded in 1897, the cemetery is the final resting place for nearly 400 Black citizens of Hagerstown, including many early local faith leaders, Civil War veterans, and community builders. Restoring and maintaining these grounds is a vital part of honoring their memory and preserving our shared faith and regional history.
