Many congregations find that reaching out to their local schools is an important way to serve children and their families and strengthen ties with the broader community. Here are 50 Ways you can engage your local school effectively.

Stay Informed

Service Year Positions 


Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation is partnering with Meritus Health to offer paid, full-time Service Year positions open for young adults ages 18–24 with a high school diploma or equivalent. They can gain a full-time job opportunity, professional coaching, consistent pay of at least $15 an hour, as well as a $6,000 completion grant award. These roles span both clinical and non-clinical positions. See flyer for more information and share with your networks. Website.

Refrigerator Needed


Dominion Ministries is in need of a refrigerator. It can be a used one. On occasions they have dinners at the church and feed the hungry. They will come and pick it up. Call 227-239-3214 or email shirleymaynard@myactv.net.

Interfaith Progressive Dinner

Sat., Sept. 26 | 5:00 - 9:00 pm

To honor the International Day of Peace, an Interfaith Progressive Dinner will be held at several different local houses of worship with multiple faith traditions participating. Different portions of a meal will be served at each location as we progressively move as one group from place to place. Reservations: $25 per person general admission, $10 for students (including college). Event is limited to a maximum of 100 people. Ticket deadline is September 18, 2026.

Presentation - A History of Zion

Kent Shaffer will present "A History of Zion". Kent grew up in ZION and has a vast knowledge of the history of the church. As most know, Jonathan Hager died while building this church. The church also played a role in the Civil War. Come and learn more about this Hagerstown landmark. Parking is available behind the church parsonage. This program is free and open to the public.

Save the date - Perspective Taking for Positive Conflict

Gain practical tools for navigating conflict with greater understanding. This course is designed to highlight how our personal perceptions, values, and bias influence our interactions with others. The discussion will focus on how conflict arises in both the therapeutic (client) and work (peer) settings, and how to navigate the conflict to help the relationship strengthen instead of becoming a destructive force.
