Dept. of Social Services shares updates at HARC meeting


Representatives of the Washington County Department of Social Services (DSS) spoke at HARC's June meeting. Joshua Bond, Assistant Director for Family Investment, gave an update on changes to benefits that will affect vulnerable members of our community. Leanne Nevels, Child Welfare Supervisor talked about the need for foster families in Washington County and what that involves, asking faith communities for an opportunity to speak in their congregations. CASA Rally Against ICE Facility

Join CASA's rally against ICE’s proposed detention facility in Elkridge and stand with immigrant communities across Maryland. ICE is seeking to expand its Baltimore Field Office into a massive center of operations in Elkridge, right in the heart of Howard County’s vibrant immigrant community. Rally and pack the Garmatz US Courthouse at a critical federal hearing that will help determine whether this cruel and unlawful facility can move forward. 8:45 am: Gather & refreshments; 9:00 am: Rally; 9:40 am: Faith leaders and resistance singers lead a procession to pack the courthouse. Clergy and lay leaders are strongly encouraged to wear their faith signifiers and to bring signs that amplify faithful solidarity as the interfaith community shows up for justice for all! In honor of our nation's 250th birthday, downtown Hagerstown will celebrate the diversity of our community in the heart of our city. This event will include local heritage and cultural vendors/organizations, activities for the whole family, live music and a time capsule unveiling from the nation’s bicentennial! Time capsule includes items from Washington County Council of Churches (dba HARC), Congregation B'Nai Abraham, and many other organizations and individuals.
