Almost to the Finish Line!

You’re almost to the finish line! As the quarter comes close to an end, it can get hectic. If you need support or guidance, now is a great time to connect with your advisors. In this issue we will cover:

  • Grade change options
  • Key dates and events
  • Career Corner focus on letters of recommendation

Grade Change Options

Reminder that the deadline to drop courses and grade change options is approaching. Here is what you need to know about each option:

Dropping Courses/ Withdraws: Last day to drop or withdraw from the quarter is Dec. 5th

  • Self-service drop: Use this option if you have not dropped a course yet
  • Current Quarter Drop: Use this option to drop more than one class, a full withdrawal, or to drop any if your enrollment requires full-time status

Grade Changes Options: Last day to change grades is Dec. 12th

  • Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory (S/NS): Numerical grades count towards degree/major requirements and impact your overall GPA. S/NS grades are not applied to degree/major requirements or your GPA. A grade less than 2.0 for undergraduates is converted to NS. NS is not included in GPA calculations. No credit is awarded for courses in which an NS grade is received. There is a $20 fee for any changes.

Not sure which option is best for you? Connect with an HAS advisor for guidance!

Career Corner: Letters of Recommendation

Applying to grad school, scholarships, or internships? Letters of recommendation play a crucial role in your chances of success. This task can seem daunting at first and we want to illuminate the steps to getting a letter that will endorse you in your pursuits. We recommend you:

  • Start your request early! Ideally 2-3 months before deadline. (4 weeks before deadline is the minimum)
  • Choose recommenders who know you well.
  • Prepare application materials like your resume, statement of purpose, and writing samples before the request. This helps faculty write detailed, supportive letters and helps you clearly detail your goals.
  • Communicate respectfully and keep your recommenders informed throughout the process. Remember to follow up and share updates!
