Hello Future HATS Leaders!
The High Adventure Treks Leadership Academy has a twofold benefit. It is designed to teach Dad and Daughter and Dad and Son teams how to be effective leaders in wilderness settings. It is designed to teach how to explain the theme of a particular HATS campout, the life lessons involved in the games played, and how to effectively debrief groups after activities and at the end of a campout.
The second benefit is to create a group of older daughters and sons who will be capable of taking over more of the leadership of the campouts and taking those leadership principles and applying them to their daily lives in their schools, organizations and families. It could even help the daughter/son get a summer or college job.
The HATS Leadership Academy will offer a "Wilderness Leadership Certification" upon completion of:
- January Leadership Academy Training Campout
- Leading one Spring HATS campout
- September Leadership Academy Training Campout
- Leading one Fall HATS Campout.
- HATS Wilderness First Aid / First Aid
- Recruiting Opportunity
These campouts are not ordinary campouts. They will not teach you a skill such as canoeing or rock climbing;
it will teach you how to lead a campout.
The certification requirements may be met in the above order anytime between beginning of 8th grade year and beginning of 12th grade year.
Mentoring has always been a key part of the HATS program. Those that have earned their Red Hat can tell you that they often get more out of mentoring a campout than they did when they first attended it.
Through the creation of the HATS Leadership Academy we are ready to take mentoring and leadership to the next level!
