Teenagers in Grades 8-12 are invited to participate in a multi-faceted ministry at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. You're encouraged to join Youth Director Rick Belbutoski and other adult leaders for a variety of ministries, events, and ways to serve your neighbor in the name of Jesus Christ.
Hello Hennepin Youth and Families,

It is undeniable. This is a September unlike any other. That's not going to stop us from having meaningful ways for us to be together, and continue to love and support youth and your family.

Saturday, there's an outdoor movie night, and it's not too late to RSVP. This Sunday at 5 pm, we're kicking off Fall Youth Nights, and there's going to be an opportunity for youth to win a special delivery from Door Dash!

Info about this year's Trunk or Treat is up, and we're kicking off a book club that will be led by Michelle DeVaughn.

I hope you're excited. Even though this is a challenging time for youth and families, I believe God is going to do amazing things in and through the lives of youth and your family. Check out the great info below to learn how to dive into some of these meaningful opportunities.

Grace and Peace,

Rick

Hoping for Trunk or Treat Volunteers

Trunk or Treat 2020 will provide a unique opportunity for us to support our neighborhood. Even with a pandemic, we have plans to create an event that will still be a blessing to dozens of families, while still keeping them safe.

Please read through the opportunities to be involved listed below, and decide how you'd like to participate in this important event.

Trunk host - Individuals, families, and local organizations are invited to decorate trunks. Local organizations will have the opportunity to share information about their services with those who attend. All trunks will be entered to win the prize for "Favorite Trunk, "Scariest Trunk", and "Funniest Trunk,' as voted on by those who attend.

Event Usher - Due to Covid-19, this year's event will be held completely outdoors. We still anticipate a large number of guests, and it's going to require people who are willing to mask up and help others stay safe while enjoying this year's event.

Donate one of the following candies:

Dots, Free2b Sun Chips, Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Mini's, Ring Pop, Saf-T Pops, Skittles, Smarties, Sour Patch Kids, Starbursts, Swedish Fish, Surf Sweets Organic Fruity Berries

September Book Club

his fall, The Hennepin Youth program will include a Book Club. Youth are able to join the club, by signing up to read the month's book, and join in the scheduled conversation for that book. Each book will touch on an important social issue, and provide an opportunity for youth to discuss their thoughts while sharing in a great story.
In September, the Youth Book Club will be reading Who Put This Song On? by  Morgan Parker. Each student who signs up will have the book sent to their home. To join the group reading this month's book and sign up for the group's first meeting on Wednesday Oct. 7th at 7 pm please register here.

Michelle DeVaughn will be leading the group. If you have questions feel free to email Michelle devaugnmm@gmail.com or Rick at Rick@haumc.org.

Notes On Youth Calendar This Fall
  • This fall confirmation and youth group will be morphing into one weekly meeting. This new structure will bring the fun and games of youth group and the Christian Education of Confirmation class into one weekly zoom meeting that will be held at 5 pm on Sunday evenings. This change will take effect on Sunday September 13. Those who are in the confirmation call will get credit for participating in this weekly meeting.

  • There will be several in person opportunities offered throughout the fall. These events will be held outdoors and are not mandatory to participate in for anyone who is unable or uncomfortable with group activities due to the Corona virus.

  • The youth team has made plans for a socially distanced Trunk or Treat event which will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday Oct. 30th. More Details coming soon!

My goal is to have the full fall calendar ready to share Thursday September 10. So, stay tuned.

Youth Group will continue to meet on Zoom
