A NEW PROGRAM TO HELP ALL STUDENTS IN READING & MATHEMATICS:
Yesterday our entire teaching staff participated in staff development training in order to use a newly adopted program at Highlands.
Our teaching staff is excited about ability for our students to have access to on-line instruction that is individualized and enables students to review material, to receive feedback, and to advance in the areas of both READING and MATHEMATICS!
In order to read about this new program, please go to  http://i-readycentral.com/familycenter/what-is-i-ready/.
We are hoping to create an incentive-based summer program so that our students are able to review and learn during the summer months while earning prizes for their work! More info to come in the next few newsletters...
We will also hold a family instruction event(s) to help all of you learn how to use iReady at home!
We want to give our HAWKS an excellent start to the new school year... and to give them something to do in the summer time!

You can also take a few minutes to watch an informational video for parents by clicking  here!

CAASPP TESTING COMING SOON!
Highlands' students in grades 3-6 will begin taking CAASPP assessments in late April. Our teaching staff received training today and each teacher will be sending a personalized letter home to parents indicating the exact dates for their class' testing times.
Please note that testing takes approximately six hours and is administered on four different dates (with the exception of 5th grades taking two additional assessments in Science & Physical Education).
We know that students perform better when they take assessments with their peers; we ask that you do everything possible to help your child be at school and on time the dates of testing (and every other day!).
If you would like to learn more about the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium and to preview test questions that have been released from previous CAASPP years, please go to: https://www.smarterbalanced.org/parents/
