VOPA Tiny Home Project Pledge

"Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania (VOPA) is a local non-profit organization using local money to end homelessness among our local veteran population. Over the last few years, VOPA has raised nearly $4,000,000 to build a tiny home community on the banks of the Susquehanna to rebuild a sense of community and provide a support network that breaks the cycle of homelessness. As they near groundbreaking, VOPA reached out to our HBA for help reaching their fundraising goal. We set a goal to raise $10,000 to sponsor a bench in the community and we are nearly there! With a $2,500 donation from our Community Service Fund and $6,200 raised from our members at the recent Pyramid Awards, we are only $1,300 away from our goal!

Please consider donating to support our organization's vision of supporting housing for all in Central PA!"

If you would like to make a pledge to the VOPA Tiny Home Project on behalf of the HBA, please email andreja@harrisburgbuilders.com

Congressman Scott Perry Visits the HBA

On May 2, we had the privilege of a visit from Congressman Scott Perry to speak on WOTUS and many other topics.

Key takeaways:

  • His deep concern over too much Government control – Examples: Waters of the US Clean Waters Act including subsurface water, Zoning efforts to reduce suburban sprawl, effort to outlaw gas appliances, the push for changes in energy sources.

  • Federal Budget - Government is out of control on spending and Bills that include non related issues buried in them.

Perry ran for office to make change and is not worried about ruffling feathers. - Congress can’t change Executive or Administrative Actions but they can and will continue to fight back.

He asked that we all make our voices loudly heard at the state and local level and to keep him in the loop on issues effecting the Home Building Industry so that he has ammunition to continue the fight.

Stephen Fleming Testifies to the PA Senate Majority Policy Committee

HBA Board President, Stephen Fleming had the opportunity to testify to the PA Senate Majority Policy Committee about Promoting Housing Affordability through Land Use Reforms.

A series of panelists spoke about how the regulatory environment provides obstacles to builders and developers attempting to provide desperately needed housing opportunities. New home starts across the country are running behind demand by roughly 5 million homes over the past several years. Zoning, storm water and other land use policies are moving against our industries that are trying to make housing available and affordable in Pennsylvania.

Steve thanks the Pennsylvania Home Builders Association and the Home Builders of Metro Harrisburg for the opportunity to be part of this presentation.
