FRANKLIN BAILEY RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE TO THE INDUSTRY

Franklin Bailey with Franklin Bailey Construction, LLC of the The Home Builders Association of South Georgia was recently recognized at a surprise celebration for his 35+ years of involvement in the building industry.

Dr. Jarod Bailey,  Franklin's son, brought together around 50 influential people in his father's life, including clients, workers, and family. Franklin's other son, Travis, came all the way from Michigan with his wife and son to celebrate and honor his father.

One of Franklin's clients stated, "He doesn't self promote. He doesn't take out ads in this or ads in that but he's involved in everything he's asked to be involved in and gives his 110%."

Other clients praised his integrity, calling him, "not only a good contractor, but an honest man. And the people that work with him are the best in the world."

HBAG would not be successful without members like Franklin- hardworking and driven individuals.  Thank you for your dedicated leadership, Franklin!

HBAG DUES INCREASE REMINDER

This is a reminder that the HBAG dues increase of $10 per member took effect October 1st, 2016. The new rate is $130 for members and $45 for affiliate members with renewal dates of October 1st.

The HBAG Board of Directors approved to raise the annual dues at scheduled intervals by $10.00 increments. This dues increase is a result of the Long Range Planning Task Force results showing that HBAG needed to follow Board Policy and raise the reserves to the policy level and rebuild the Builder Action Fund level. All of these scheduled dues increases will be applied to the reserves account and Builder Action Fund account. The annual rate to remit is determined by the member's anniversary date as indicated below.

* April 1, 2015 - HBAG dues will be $110.00 per new member and renewing members with Anniversary Date April 1, 2015 - September 30, 2015.
* On or after October 1, 2015 the HBAG annual dues will be $120.00 per member (New or renew)
* On or after October 1, 2016 the HBAG annual dues will be $130.00 per member (New or renew)
* On or after October 1, 2017 the HBAG annual dues will be $140.00 per member (New or renew)

Do not hesitate to call HBAG with questions or concerns.

NAHB Dues Increase Update

The NAHB Financial Services team has fielded a number of questions recently about the NAHB dues rate for 2017.  In an effort to help clarify the situation, please see below.

Pursuant to the plan approved by the 2013 IBS Board of Directors, the Builder and Associate dues rate is $198 for members with anniversary dates of January 2017 and beyond.

That said, a corporate resolution was circulated on October 14, 2016 in advance of the IBS Board of Directors meeting. If approved by the NAHB directors in Orlando, the resolution will defer the scheduled $16 dues increase to January 1, 2018.

Unfortunately there is no way to predict how the NAHB directors will vote on this resolution so in situations where HBAs are billing now for 2017 renewal memberships, HBAs may find it safest to use the stated 2017 NAHB dues rate of $198. This way the HBA will be covered if the Board does not vote to change the NAHB dues rate for 2017.

Feel free to contact Doris Morin at dmorin@nahb.org or Eileen Ramage at eramage@nahb.org for any further clarification or assistance in handling your HBA's particular billing circumstances.

A NOTE FROM THE KSU NAHB STUDENT CHAPTER
An update from the NAHB Student Chapter at Kennesaw State University

October 31st marked the end of a really busy October for the Kennesaw State University National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Student Chapter, as we took the opportunity to celebrate Careers In Construction Month. The purpose of Careers In Construction Month was "to get involved in the community to help increase public awareness of the opportunities available in construction trade professions".

We took the initiative of breaking the month out into weeks that we designated for special sequences of events.Preparedness Week, Action Week, Awareness Week, and Impact Week, provided students the opportunity to participate in construction-related community service opportunities, resume workshops, networking activities, informational sessions with builders, and visits to secondary schools.

The student chapter participated in, and hosted, a total of (9) events this month that supported the purpose of Careers in Construction Month. Our membership is continuing to grow, as we now have over 30 active members and counting. Current and upcoming company and organization sponsorship opportunities have allowed for us to participate in events, provide for our members, and get ready for our travels to the International Builders Show and NAHB Residential Construction Management Competition in Orlando, FL this upcoming January. On November 1st, our faculty advisors Dr. Charner Rodgers and Professor Brandi Williams traveled to the nation's capital to present to the National Housing Endowment board members. Representing Kennesaw State University as one of three finalists to receive a HELP Grant that would provide a tremendous amount of funding for the creation of a Residential Construction concentration under our Department of Construction Management, our KSU NAHB faculty advisors nailed their presentation and made history. Kennesaw State University, as of yesterday, is now the recipient of a 2016 National Housing Endowment HELP Grant which will now be the stepping stone for the future of a residential construction option within the CM program. In October, history was made, steps forward were taken, and the student chapter grew as a unit.

Thank you for all that you have done for the student members in the KSU NAHB Student Chapter. None of this would be possible without your help, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunities to connect with you. The future is bright.

Please join us in recapping the start of our new year by taking a look at the October Newsletter.
