HC Alumni News - Community
“For as in one body we have many members and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” - Romans 12:4-5

This month we are focusing on one of Houston Christian High School’s core values: Community! Our community includes students, faculty, staff, alumni, past and current parents, grandparents, board members – anyone who makes HC a part of their own experience. Together we reach our mission and vision – and oftentimes we have fun doing it!

Earlier this month, on Valentine’s Day, we highlighted three of our Mustang Sweetheart couples. By the end of that week, we heard from three more couples – bringing us to 30 Mustang Sweetheart couples! We have mailed over 30 “Future Mustang” onesies and t-shirts to alumni children. Other exciting news is that we have our first legacy applicant to Houston Christian. We are so blessed by our community and we love seeing this growth in the next generation of Mustangs!

It has also been wonderful to see so many alumni and alumni families from our community supporting our current students at our home games that qualified us for the SPC tournament. We also had several alumni and their families join us at HBU to enjoy all of our students' hard work in putting on Crazy for You, the musical. It was an amazing show!

The 2nd annual Mustang Madness Day surprised us all again this year! On a beautifully sunny day, our students were told that their regularly scheduled day was now going to be filled with fun activities. They could choose what they wanted to do from the 25 different options, ranging from bounce house races, to virtual reality experiences, to flip book fun with friends, to a movie with popcorn, to board games and more! Students were encouraged to have new experiences and meet a new friend or two – and they did!

Spring 2020 will have several opportunities for our alumni to reconnect with each other and with teachers here in Houston!

Mustang Stories
Linnea Mosvold '17
I am currently a junior on the Colorado Christian University Women's Soccer team. As a part of the team, I recently had the privilege of going on a mission trip to San Jose, Costa Rica. We arrived with very little expectations as schools were on holiday and our goal was to minister and put on soccer clinics for kids. Little did we know God's plans were much bigger than ours! Not only did God bring kids that wanted to hear our message about Him but we were also able to teach kids about where our confidence comes from and how we can glorify God through the game of soccer. Soccer is a universal language that is a great avenue to introduce people to the love of Christ.

While we were there we had the ability to play against two teams that had girls who ranged from 12 to 33 years old. I had teammates who shared their testimonies and we were able to impact communities even though there was a language barrier. One of the coaches of a team we played said: "the futbol field is like an open church." And wow was he right! Another thing that I was reminded of while I was in Los Guido, a suburb of San Jose, was how important support is in a community. We had a mother of a young girl tell us that girls often shy away from playing sports because it is seen as a "boys" thing. She was grateful that we were able to show her daughter that she can be a strong, confident young girl and also play soccer. We also had a mother who was thankful that we had shared the importance of having a personal relationship with Christ because it greatly impacts every aspect of your life as well as the lives around you. My own relationship with God wouldn't be where it is today if it weren't for the community that I had at HC. I am grateful for teachers, coaches, and friends that continually poured into me and the things that I learned from being a part of athletics and Younglife that still affect me today.
