Houston Christian is happy to report that we have had no reports of COVID-19 on campus to date! To stay that way, our students are staying masked and maintaining safe distances! It has been great to see groups collaborating in small pods of four and our students are meeting new people through the modified and varying lunch schedules. The Mustang Corral and MetroNational Gym are abuzz each day with the normal student activity and chatter, but it is a bit muffled as everyone who isn’t actively eating must wear their mask.
After running a “Mode B” schedule for a month, with only 50% of our students on campus at a time, we welcomed all of our students back to campus on September 17! We have reverted back to the normal block scheduling for our teachers and students, which they all greatly appreciate.
While normal, back-to-school events can’t happen right now, we are finding creative ways to continue to build community. Our senior moms wanted to show their love and support for our new senior class by creating "Welcome Back" care packages for the Class of 2021 (pictured above). Nothing says community like an unexpected can of Silly String! We also held a virtual Grandparents Day and invited alumni grandparents as well! Please check with your grandparents to see if they watched it!
To build community with parents, Dr. Livingston hosted his annual Bow Tie Breakfasts for new families - completely virtually. He fittingly renamed the meetings "Bow Tie Browser.” He shared HC's history, strategic plan, and a bit about what the future holds for the school with many of our new families.
To build our alumni community - we celebrated our first annual HC Alumni Day and launched our new, interactive alumni platform, HC Connects! With our virtual rollout, we are glad to report that we have over 70 alumni signed on already! From job and internship opportunities (which can be uploaded & published by alumni) to planning reunions and re-connecting with classmates, HC Connects offers our alumni a new way to engage with the school, our students and each other virtually!
