Houston Christian 2021! After a restorative holiday break that allowed our teachers, students and staff to recharge and regroup, we have hit the ground running!
We kicked off the spring semester with the 5th annual Mustang Fund Pancake Breakfast to thank our community for their support. Students "flipped" over the opportunity to enjoy the gourmet stylings of Dr. Livingston, Dr. Price, and Dr. Utakrit. Dr. Livingston upped his game by sneaking in different colored pancake batter and creating unique designs. That’s what we do here at HC - find innovative (and fun) ways to improve upon a standard product!
We marked an important anniversary this month. January 21 was the 15th year of the Pampell Family Chapel. We have hosted 782 chapel services for our students, 15 Founder's Day Chapels, Junior Red Shirt and Senior Award Recognition ceremonies, and so much more in the chapel. We are so grateful to the Pampell Family for their commitment to education and understanding that a chapel would provide a special place for our community to gather, pray and learn together.
One of our favorite days on campus is hosting alumni at the annual presentation held in the Pampell Family Chapel. This year, students heard from Ellie Chavez '20, Brooke Durrett '20, Peyton Erck '20, Autumn Nicholas '19, Jonathan Wells '19, and Josh Wilmot '20, about their college experiences. Annalis Chavez '18 joined the worship team by singing at the opening of chapel on January 7. Their words of encouragement and support, especially in this very different college environment due to COVID, were even more meaningful and appreciated. Thank you alumni, for making time to mentor and lead others to find their own path and reach their greatest promise.
We did not forget Homecoming! While it looks much different this year, we are still celebrating our students with a week of homecoming festivities and student dress-up days culminating in a Pep Rally and the presentation of the Homecoming Court on January 30 on Mustang Field. We look forward to celebrating Homecoming safely yet still creating special memories with our Mustangs!

Mustang History - Who is that horse?

Houston Christian has a rich history of traditions, alumni, and parent volunteers. One of the more familiar items at any HC event, whether it's the first day of school, homecoming, or the pancake breakfast, Mustang "Sally" can be found adding a shine or twinkle to any event.
Did you know that this brilliant centerpiece came from one of our very own parent volunteers? Alumni mom, Julie Yutzy (Jeremy Yutzy '10) saw a need and patiently hot-glued each rhinestone onto this wooden structure so that the school could use it for future events. Her silhouette has become a popular and expected guest at all events.
Next time you are on-campus for a school event, see if you can spot Mustang "Sally" proudly sharing school spirit for all of our Mustangs!

This year, we're honored to host investigative reporter and esteemed author of Race Against Time, Jerry Mitchell. Mitchell was working for the Clarion-Ledger in the 1980s when he decided to begin investigating unsolved civil rights killings. His dogged pursuit of justice eventually lead to arrests of several Klansmen. He's continued his work for the past several decades and now shares his insight on history, social justice, and media throughout the United States while also running the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting.
Please join us virtually on February 4! Thanks to our sponsors, we are able to provide this opportunity to our faculty, staff and students while also livestreaming it to our community. Please plan to join us on Feb 4 at 8 a.m. or watch the subsequent video presentation.

Mallory Moore '14 graduated from Baylor University in 2017 with a B.A. in Corporate Communications. While at HC she was active in: Yearbook, Theatre Arts, Drill Team, & Softball. She lives in Houston with her dog Delilah and works as a Real Estate agent & healthcare administration specialist.
"Being able to have two different fields I am passionate about is so special. I decided to get my real estate license Sophomore year of college. After two years at Baylor, I noticed that I had a passion for connecting with people and wanted to do something that had a direct impact on people’s lives. This is the same reason I started working at Alight Solutions as a Client Specialist. Although I have been working for my company for two and a half years, I still find that I am challenged each day with a new obstacle. My company works with Fortune 500 corporations and their employees. On a daily basis, I can impact over 150,000 employees’ benefits. I do not take this or the home buying process lightly. I have been entrusted with caring for people’s futures both physically and medically.
Houston Christian helped me prepare for my busy day-to-day life in multiple ways. I was involved in different things in high school which prepared me for balancing different careers. Because of the emphasis put on academics and reaching for greatness, I will always have a curious mind to push for answers and go above and beyond in any work I do. We were taught not only how to write a perfect paper, but also how to never stop digging, and how to read between the lines of what is being asked. Working directly with people can have its challenges when emotions are involved. The home buying process is one of the most emotional and massive purchases a person can make! The same goes with healthcare benefits. Being able to go to the doctor without having to worry is something every person hopes for in the long run. I use what HCHS taught me to make sure I am bringing the best user experience to all my clients I work with, in both fields.
In both of my professions, the #1 priority is user experience. Making sure that the employee or client has the smoothest transaction possible. I could only know how to do this with the skills that HCHS taught me, both academically and interpersonally. Thank you to Houston Christian for the wonderful memories, lifelong friends, and invaluable skills you have given me!"
