Q&A with Mr. Kelley:
How many years have you worked at HC?
I was hired in July of 1998 and we started classes at HC in August.
Where did you go to college and what was your degree?
My undergraduate was in Wildlife Sciences at Texas A&M University, and my master's degree is in Christian Counseling at Denver Seminary.
What do you enjoy about working at HC?
I have enjoyed the community of servants who have chosen to not enter the marketplace, to instead invest their lives in the mentoring of high school students. This collaboration is a great fit for my life-calling to reach high school friends with the good news of Jesus Christ, while encouraging them to love the Lord with all their mind.
What your favorite memory from working with students & alumni at HC?
There are too many to list them all, but one of greatest blessings from persevering these 21 years is to see students of HC become teachers, chaplains and speakers at HC. I love watching our alumni out there making a difference in the lives of others.
Do you have a favorite class or year?
There have been several years, but one of the most memorable moments was after doing environmental research out in God's Garden, one small class decided to take a 5-minute nap in the sunlight on a cold winter afternoon... they were like puppies to me, and I will treasure that. Another time was outside doing environmental research with students and I looked back and there were my Doxa dancers, twirling and leaping amidst the blooming wildflowers we were researching; so much beauty in their art amongst God's Creation.
What do you think is unique about your relationship with alumni after they graduate from HC?
I would like to think that they can finally just see me as "Jim." I love seeing them out there taking on leadership, or getting married, or doing life well. They are like my own kids in many ways.
How would you suggest students stay in touch with you and with HC?
I love emails, and as an old dude I keep up with Facebook when I can.
