Graduation and Prom Notification

We are in unprecedented times and discussing creative opportunities to honor you, the Class of 2020. There have been many ideas discussed, including the summer graduation you proposed in the Class of 2020 School Experience Feedback Survey. Given the uncertainty of CDC and public health department guidelines, I am not comfortable letting May 21 pass with no recognition event and just crossing our fingers and hoping that we can have our commencement in summer. Therefore, we will honor the original May 21 commencement day and then depending on social distancing guidelines, host a second event in the summer. With that said, you could potentially be the senior class that has two commencement events. A virtual event in May and a second event in the summer.  We have also discussed prom and the impact social distancing guidelines will have an event with about 800+ people. We will formally gather preliminary / pre-decisional feedback from you once we know options. At this time, the details are not finalized but we are thinking of a summer event that would include a social, a graduation stage to walk across and for pictures, an opportunity for signing yearbooks, a senior BBQ, a concert, games, and many other ideas.
On May 21, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. we will host a virtual graduation ceremony. In the coming weeks, communication of the livestream link and other information to you, your family and friends will be sent. The virtual graduation will be full of pomp and circumstance, hosted by Nick Moawad and Lauren Hughes, Senior Class and Student Council Presidents. Based upon your vote, the faculty readers of student names will be Mr. Gebhart, Ms. Hoeksema, Ms. Saunders and Mr. Wilbur. The Honors Orator, Senior Speakers and Principal Walsh will give graduation speeches. Superintendent of District 86 Ms. Tammy Prentiss will proclaim your class as official Hinsdale Central graduates; Once a Red Devil, always a Red Devil.
Regarding items associated with graduation, we anticipate passing out a hard copy of the graduation program when we distribute the yearbooks, cap & gowns, honor medals, NHS regalia and potentially personal property from the lockers. We are still talking through the details, but it will probably be the week of May 18 in a drive-thru style. Imagine pulling up in your car, giving your name, receiving a packet of items, and then we will see you in person in the summer for a Senior Event.
Please stay safe, healthy, and do your part to social distance. In the coming week(s) you will receive an email that asks for additional preliminary / pre-decisional feedback on a summer event, as well as provide you with the details for graduation materials.

Senior Final Transcript Request

Seniors received an email asking them to complete our online survey to indicate their post-secondary plans and request their final high school transcript. The form can be found at Hinsdale Central Class of 2020 Post-Secondary Plans & Final Transcript Request . It is important that ALL seniors complete this short survey. Transcripts will be sent in early June. Please reach out to your counselor if you have any questions or still need to discuss you post-secondary options. 
Heirloom Tomato Plant Sales / LEAP Club Fundraiser

LEAP Into Africa Club is excited to announce our annual heirloom tomato sale fundraiser supporting the LEAP Science and Math Schools in South Africa. We have seven varieties of tomato plants as well as basil and cabbage plants. All plants are $5 each. 
To place an order, please fill out  this order form . We are accepting payment through Venmo, check, and credit card. Further information on these payment methods is given in the payment section of the order form. The order form also details how to make donations in addition to or in lieu of a plant purchase.

Teacher Appreciation Week Begins May 4th!

Teachers change the lives of millions of students every day—their immense work and impact moves us beyond words. With the abrupt end to the physical school year, our teachers have done even more to continue education with virtual classrooms and learning at home lessons. All to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Viewing Students Grades in HAC

Thank you for your continued engagement in our Remote Learning.  As we all continue to navigate remote learning together, we wanted to let students and families know how they can continue to access support and a students academic standing. In the past few weeks, we’ve gotten several questions about how to best view both current and Interim Progress Report(IPR) grades in Home Access Center(HAC). To help answer those questions, we’ve created this document to assist:  Viewing Student Grades in Home Access Center
Please continue to reach out to us with questions and remember that every student should complete every assignment provided to them by their teachers, just as they would in a traditional school environment. If a student is unable to do their work for any reason, they should reach out to their teacher so that individual accommodations can be made. 
AP Exam Updates

AP Exam Updates
Students who are registered for an AP exam received the information below from College Board via email. Students that have not received emails from College Board should log into their College Board account and update their email address.
         AP Exams have been revised to about 45 minutes each and will be taken online, at home and can be taken on a desktop, laptop, tablet or cell phone.

         Colleges across the country are voicing strong support for students to complete the AP experience, take the exam, and receive the college credit they deserve.
         Students can opt-out of the exam without being charged the $40 cancellation if they prefer not to test this year. You must cancel your exams through . Students who cancel by April 20 will have refunds processed in April. Students who cancel after April 20 will receive a refund after the exam window has closed.

Congratulations! Your student’s hard work and commitment to their education has been paid off with acceptance to college! In the past, Hinsdale Central has honored your student’s acceptance into their future school by displaying, at our graduation ceremony, a personalized banner featuring their name and college’s name. This year, we would still like to provide to you the opportunity to order a banner to display at your home. This colorful banner, which is yours to keep, is a great keepsake commemorating your success in high school and beyond. Banners are 24"x30" and printed in color on both sides with 4 grommet holes for easy hanging.
