Family Feedback Survey - Please submit by December 7, 2020

During the board of education meeting on Nov. 19, we presented recommended bell and in-person lunch schedules for second semester. We also shared a schedule we can use if we need to be fully remote or cannot offer in-person lunch service. You can access all of the proposed schedules by visiting https://bit.ly/2UXL2NY.

As part of this process, we collected student feedback on a variety of topics (e.g., teacher interactions and experiences, learning environment, etc.) that helped us identify strengths and opportunities for improvement from first semester, and enabled us to make informed decisions about our proposed plans for the second half of the school year. With this in mind, we have created this form so that you can share your thoughts on several of the same topics, and also confirm whether you want your child to participate in our hybrid or remote instructional model following winter break.

Below are a few important things to keep in mind when you are filling out this form.

1. We are asking you to please provide your child’s student ID number so that the data we receive is easier to organize, sort and search. If you do not know your child’s ID number, you can retrieve it by logging into the Home Access Center.

2. We are providing three different options for second semester – participate in the hybrid model; begin learning from home on a full-time basis with the option of switching to the hybrid model; or learn from home on a full-time basis until the end of the school year. We added the third option (learn from home on a full-time basis until the end of the school year) so that we know how many individuals to account for in our plans for bringing more students on campus.

3. We are asking families that have multiple students enrolled in our schools to please fill out a separate form for each one. Doing this will give you the chance to provide feedback on each child's learning experience during first semester. It will also allow you to choose the instructional model (i.e., hybrid or remote) that best meets your child's individual needs.

4. The families of students from the Transition Center do not need to fill out the form. Our staff will contact you directly to discuss plans for second semester.

We are asking that all forms be submitted by Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. Please note that if we do not receive a form for a student, we will assume that student will begin second semester in their current instructional model (i.e., hybrid or remote).

Attention Parents of Sophomores and Seniors

Sophomores: please be on the lookout for an email from Jostens for the ability to place class ring orders.

Seniors: please be on the lookout for an email from Jostens for cap and gown orders for graduation. Caps and gowns have been paid for already in your school fees, however, Jostens still needs your sizing information to finalize the cap and gowns process. Please provide sizing information asap.

Deadlines for orders to be placed is December 4th.
Attention: 2nd Semester Driver Education Students!

Please click here for information regarding permit application registration and testing. We will be offering an opportunity to complete this process at school on 12/8 and 12/9. Obtaining permits through Hinsdale Central will save you a trip to the DMV! You must sign-up for a designated time slot!

Quarter 2 Make a Difference Award Nominations

At Hinsdale Central, many staff members offer special help and reach out in kindness to those around them. They teach classes, advise clubs and coach teams that excite the students. If you know a teacher, coach, counselor or other staff member who makes a difference, especially during these trying times, please nominate them for an award by completing the form found here http://www.hcpto.org/make-a-difference/

Anyone can make a nomination. The PTO presents 6 Make A Difference Awards per quarter. The awards include our thanks with a personalized certificate and a $50 restaurant gift card. Nominations received by Friday, Dec. 11th will be considered for the second quarter Make A Difference Awards.

Schedule Changes for 2nd Semester

As we begin to plan for a safe second semester, we wanted to give students the opportunity to make any changes to their semester schedule that they were considering. If you are interested in dropping a course for a new course or for a study hall, you must make your request by Sunday, December 6th by completing our Spring 20-21 Schedule Change Request form. 

Change of mind requests and requests to level down will be made on a space available basis ONLY. Please note that due to assigning and balancing student cohort assignments for attendance for 2nd semester, there will not be any exceptions to this deadline. Due to space constraints and the number of students that can safely be in a classroom, we may not be able to drop a course for a study hall after this date either, so please consider this carefully and discuss it with your parents. Please also feel free to reach out to your counselor or teacher if you would like talk through any changes before completing this form. If you are happy with your current 2nd semester schedule, you do not need to do anything!

Changes that are possible will be viewable in HAC on December 12.
It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

Join the Hinsdale Central Drama Club for a (socially distanced!) night of holiday magic with their performance of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. The show will stream all day on December 11th and will be broadcast on www.broadwayondemand.com/series/ . Type Hinsdale Central in the search bar. 

The show will be $10 single/$15 family. On December 12th, the show’s audio only performance will be streamed on WHSD 88.5 Radio Central and on the radio website, NFHSnetwork.com. The radio performance on the 12th is free! It will start streaming at midnight and re-run every 90 minutes. All background music in the show is performed by Hinsdale Central’s own Chamber Choir led by Ms. Burkemper. For more information, visit www.hinsdaledrama.com

Winter Break and Rumors

There have been a number of rumors and much speculation that building and district administrators are discussing changing the winter break schedule. There is no truth to such rumors. Winter Break will begin on Monday, December 21 and go through Friday, January 1. If you have questions on school related matters, please consider calling Hinsdale Central, 630.570.8000, versus using non-school affiliated social media outlets.

Any and all changes to the school calendar and the instructional environment will be discussed at the Board of Education Meetings. Please refer to the school website and BoardDocs for official school news.

The health and well-being of our community remains a top priority. Our District is committed to being as prepared as possible and thus provides the following updates on our health procedures. Students having difficulty with technology, should contact the Hinsdale Central Tech Help Desk at helpdesk@hinsdale86.org or call 630-655-6180. The IT staff can help students reset passwords or repair Chromebooks as well as many other tech issues.
