Home Access Center Information - (HAC) will be turned on January 10th

HAC will be turned back on Friday, January 10 th at 4:00pm.

Grading Timeline:
  1. 7:00 AM Wednesday, December 18 – HAC turned off
  2. 4:00 PM Friday, January 10 – HAC turned back on and report cards available to students and parents in HAC

Why is Home Access Center (HAC) inaccessible?
· All grades must be electronically processed and checked for errors and incompletes.
· Turning off HAC while grades are checked for accuracy ensures that families don’t see a grade before it has been verified as correct.
· Since teachers submit their grades at different times, if HAC is left on, students and families become concerned that something is wrong if some grades appear but others are missing in HAC.
· Deactivating HAC as grades are submitted over several weeks and then turning it back on once all grades are submitted limit confusion while guaranteeing that all students have access to their grades at the same time.  
Course Selection for the 2020-2021 School Year

Current students are meeting with counselors over the next few weeks to select courses for the 2020-2021 school year. Appointment dates/times are emailed to the student through their school email, as well as posted in the cafeteria and in the Counseling Office.

After Jan. 10 th , student’s course recommendations will be viewable in Home Access Center (HAC) as course requests.

To view the courses recommendations in HAC:
·          Select the Classes icon
·          Click on the Schedule tab
·          Scroll past the current schedule to the 2020-2021 Course Requests.

All course recommendations by teachers are listed so you may see multiple courses within a content area. Please note that recommended courses are not the actual enrolled courses for next year. Once students have met with their counselor, this list of courses will be updated to reflect the final course requests for the 2020-2021 school year. The deadline to make any changes to the course selections is February 5, 2020 . After that, no changes will be made until our scheduling processes are finalized in May and then will only be possible on a space available basis. Please talk with your student’s counselor if you have any questions or concerns. 
College Planning Workshop Registration Open

College Planning Workshop
for HCHS Junior Students and Parents
Sunday, February 9, 2020
12:00 pm - 3:30 pm
 
The annual College Planning Workshop will be held on  
Sunday, February 9, 2020, 12:00 pm-3:30 pm .
The Hinsdale Central PTO and the Guidance Department co-host this event
for junior students and their parents.

This workshop is designed to provide juniors and their parents with some guidance as they prepare to navigate the college application process.

After an introduction, students will participate in 4 breakout sessions focused on the college search and application process. The breakout sessions include:
  • College Applications, from the Perspective of a College Admissions Rep
  • A Student's Journey - Finding the Right College Fit
  • Application Essays - Take a Deep Breath
  • HCHS Senior Student Panel – How I Selected My College List

In addition, students may choose to participate in a mock college interview, conducted by a trained interviewer. Following the interview, the student and an interview observer will review the recorded interview, discuss, and practice strategies for improvement.

We have a limited number of interview slots. Slots will be filled in the order registrations are received.

All juniors who would like to attend the workshop must register
whether or not they choose to have an interview.

The workshop also includes a 90-minute Parent Session. The session is delivered by a panel of HCHS parents and includes plenty of time for Q&A about the college application process.

5 Essentials Survey

Hello Hinsdale Central Parents -

We Need Your Feedback!!! We have reached our bare minimum goal! It takes 3 minutes of your time. We need your input!

Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey.

To take this short survey:
2. Type and select “DuPage” as "County."
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.

Parents will have until February 14, 2020 to participate in the survey.
