D86's Return to School Plan for 2020-21

Have questions or would like information about Hinsdale Central's Return to School plan for 2020-2021?

Please go HERE for details.
Hinsdale Central "Help" Hours

Hinsdale Central is here to assist with registration, fee waiver applications and to allow for the submission of last minute forms. Hours will be August 3-6, 2020 from 9-11 AM and 12-2 PM . No sign up is required. Please enter through the main entrance off 55th Street and check in at the greeters desk. A face mask will be required to enter the building.
Hinsdale Central Health Protocols

We have had many questions about health protocols, in particular to COVID-19 symptoms. Therefore we have installed a new High Throughput Thermal Screening system at our Main Entrance, Door #1, and the Pool Doors, Door #5. All students will be required to enter at these locations and get a temperature reading as they enter the building. The system can scan 36 people at one time.

Students with temperatures over 100 degrees will receive a second reading. If their temperature is still over 100 degrees, the student will be sent to the COVID-19 Room in 124B where health protocols will start.
Freshman Orientation

Freshman orientation is planned for August 12, 13 and 14th from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM . An email was sent out today detailing specifics regarding Freshman Orientation to all Freshman parents/guardians with students who are registered.
Student Chromebooks

With the school year right around the corner please take a moment to charge, power on, and login to your student Chromebook. If you experience any issues please contact the Hinsdale Central Tech Help Desk at helpdesk@hinsdale86.org or call 630-655-6180. When we are back in the building you can always stop in our Technology Support Internship Room for tech help.
Safety Drills at Hinsdale Central

Hinsdale Central has received guidance from ISBE that all school safety drills must still be conducted this year as required by law. There will be some flexibility for local
decisions on how they will be conducted; however, current law does not allow drills to be waived. We will be working with the Hinsdale Fire/Police Department to help guide us on how we can comply while meeting social distancing guidelines and the legal requirements in school code.
Home Access Center and Schedules

Students can log in to HAC [Home Access Center] to access their schedule, ID number, locker assignment and bus route. Waiver of Fees Information

You can apply in person for waiver of fees August 3-6, 2020 from 9-11 AM or 12-2 PM in the Main Office.

The Board of Education of Hinsdale High School District 86 has adopted a policy to provide for a waiver of fees when written evidence is submitted showing that at least one of the following prerequisites is met:

1. The state of Illinois informs the school that a student’s family is eligible for the National School Lunch Program.
2. The student's family is currently eligible under the guidelines of family-size income levels prescribed annually by the Secretary of Agriculture.
3. The student's family shows verification of need other than that which is noted above. A copy of the formal Policy 4.140 is on file in the administrative offices. (Examples can include: two most recent pay stubs (wages, salary, commissions), earnings from Public Assistance/Welfare, Unemployment, Child Support, Alimony, Pensions, Annuities, Social Security, Worker's Compensation, SSI, recent Income Tax Statements, and/or any other type of earned income.)

After you have finalized residency and registration requirements, you may apply for the Hinsdale Township High School Educational Fee Waiver program. Upon qualification, families will order their books using an Educational Fee Waiver Voucher through MBS online bookstore and the books will be delivered to their home. Families will receive an email from MBS with a step by step process on how to order the books. More information can be found HERE , along with an application which includes the 2020-2021Fiscal Year Income Eligibility Guidelines.

Completed forms, along with income verification can be emailed to the Main Office:

Senior Parking Permit Assignments 2020-2021 School Year

Parking applications have been processed and all seniors that have completed the process have been assigned a parking permit for 1st or 2nd semester. Due to construction and some changes that were made in the senior parking lot, we needed to move some seniors from 2nd semester to 1st semester. All students that were moved should have received an email notification regarding this. Students will not be charged for parking in PushCoin until the school year begins. All students that hold a driver's permit will need to present their driver's license when they pick up their parking permit in the fall.

Students that are highlighted in  yellow  still need to submit a copy of their driver's license and current insurance card.

Exclusion from Attendance

Proof of immunization and physical examination must be submitted to the health office at your school. Students who fail to do so before the first day of school will be excluded from school until the necessary information has been provided. Any absences that are the result of non-compliance with the immunization and examination requirements that are spelled out in the Illinois School Code are considered unexcused.
VIP Senior Photos and Underclassmen Yearbook Photos

Senior photos have been tentatively scheduled during September and October. In the next coming weeks, please look for communication directly from VIP.

Underclassmen and senior yearbook photos have been tentatively scheduled during September.

More information will be forthcoming. Please be patient as we work through new safety procedures related to COVID 19 and the start of the school year.
Summer Reading 2020

Need a break from Netflix? Rediscover your love of reading this summer with the perfect social-isolation activity: binge-reading. Your teachers have hand-selected for you a list of 40 books that will help you escape, make you laugh, or cry, or think. The lists are divided into book lists for each grade level, but feel free to choose any book on any list that you finding interesting.  And once you finish one book, you’ll probably want to go back to the list to find another title. You can find the book lists (and links to book trailer videos) here and descriptions of all the books in a slide deck here
Summer Math Packets

In order to ensure that students are fully prepared for math class in fall with all of the essential prerequisite skills, we have prepared summer math packets to keep skills fresh over the summer. To access these packets, CLICK HERE , and download the packet that corresponds to the math class students are taking next year. Once students work through the problems, they can check their answers using the solutions we posted there as well. Tutorial links are provided if students struggle with particular skills.

Any questions regarding the summer review packet can be directed to Kurt Vonnahme, Mathematics Department Chair, at 630-570-8420 or  kvonnahm@hinsdale86.org.
