We've Got Something Special Here at Holy Cross Academy

Dear Parents,

I wanted to share something wonderfully heartwarming that I saw today at our school. During our 3rd through 5th grade recess I saw a group of girls sitting at a table in the courtyard having a conversation. They seemed focused on one girl in particular and I saw one of the young ladies lightly rubbing her back in a consoling way.

I made my way over to the table to find the center of attention visably upset. She told me how sad she is that her father will be deploying in a few short days and that he's leaving in the middle of the night and she might not be able to say goodbye to him. Her friends were telling her how brave her father is and how lucky we are for people like him who dedicate their lives to our country. They reminded her that her father is a hero.

I told the young lady how blessed we are to have brave men and women that are willing to go to such incredible lengths to protect our freedoms and keep us safe. I told her about my brother, Mike, who recently retired from the Army and the number of deployments he made away from his wife and two children during his career. I told her how proud I am of my brother, his wife, and children for their sacrifice for our country.

It made my heart happy to see students supporting each other in such a kind way. One of the lines in our morning prayer asks students to pray for our school and for each other and look out for each other every day. It was so wonderful of those girls to take such good care of a classmate in a time of need. I feel blessed that my two youngest children attend HCA because I know they have thoughtful classmates who will support them.

I thought it was timely to share this message particularly with it being September 11th and our prayers being with all those in our country who sacrifice to keep us safe.

In Christo,

Collection for St. Mary's Manna Project Due Tomorrow
A reminder that students are asked to bring in either a canned good or $2 donation by tomorrow to help support St. Mary's Manna Project.

We have an impressive collection of donated items in our lobby and we hope to see that collection grow tomorrow. Students bringing in items tomorrow may add to this collection as they enter the building. Monetary donations should be dropped off in the main office in an envelope marked "food drive". Checks can be made payable to Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

As a thank you for our families' support with this worthy cause, we are allowing students who brought in an item or donation to have a dress down day tomorrow.
Dress Down Day Guidelines
We hope that students enjoy this dress down day tomorrow. Students are asked to adhere to the following guidelines for tomorrow and any future dress down days:

·        Guidelines on grooming, jewelry, and appearance apply to dress down days just as traditional school days.
·        Clothing should be neat and fit properly - neither too tight nor too loose.
·        Clothing must not prevent students from participating in the day’s activities (gym class and/or recess).
·        Shirts for both boys and girls must reach past the waist and have a full back and shoulders.
·        Students may wear either their Holy Cross Academy gym shorts or other shorts that are no shorter than two inches above the knee.
·        Girls’ skirts or dresses may not be more than two inches above the knee.
·        Clothing with any inappropriate words or images are not permitted.
·        Jeans, sweat pants, or slacks are acceptable but must be free of rips, tears, or fraying.
·        Students may not wear tights, leggings, jeggings, yoga pants, or other tight fitting pants.
·        Students may not wear flip-flops, sandals, or heels taller than one inch.

Students who come to school or a school function with inappropriate clothing will wait in the office until their parents can bring them appropriate clothing. If a parent cannot bring appropriate clothing to their child, the student will be lent a sweat suit from the Lost and Found to wear for the day.

Students who are out of dress code on a dress down day will be prohibited from participating in the next dress down day.
