BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
ECULENT: MODERN FARM TO TABLE EXPERIENCE
Have you heard of this innovative restaurant in Southeast Houston?

Before the food at Eculent ever makes it to your plate, it's tested in a lab. An actual, honest-to-goodness lab. Esteemed Executive Chef David Skinner and Sous Chef James Scheurich create gastronomic innovations for the diner's benefit. And the chefs aren't using just their hands and some measuring cups—they have centrifuges, rotary evaporators, liquid nitrogen systems, and plenty of other toys that sound like they'd be found in the lair of a comic-book villain. Their precise experiments have led to some remarkable innovations, from 5,000-flavor soup to edible soil, to strawberries that taste like meat.

During one nightly seating, guests have the chance to taste these innovative creations for themselves. Evenings begin with guests enjoying small bites and concoctions they make using personal chemistry sets. A tour of the food lab and then a first course that levitates on the table start the culinary journey. Next, servers explain the meal's proceedings as the lights dim. A series of 20 courses follows, with each one highlighting meticulously sourced ingredients from across the state and around the country. The choreographed experience doesn't stop at your taste buds, though: custom-created scents waft through the air, lights change to set the mood, local artwork dances in and out of the room, and music ripples throughout the space, creating a unique, multi-sensory dining experience.

InvestH20 Youth and Student Water Resiliency Hackathon!

The INVENTATHON@HCC is essentially a  hackathon , with a twist!

This is a two-day weekend gathering of high school, community college, four-year and graduate student teams organized to address specifically defined challenges for urban water-related resiliency. Using a fast-paced "hackathon” process and methodology, teams will be introduced to the overall issues of water management and resiliency by subject matter experts, choose a challenge to address, receive mentoring and feedback in generating technologies and integrated solutions, and present their “products and services” to a set of judges for awards and recognition during the InvestH2O 2018 Forum on September 26th, 2018.

InvestH2O 2018’s topic was chosen in response to the ongoing threat of storms and floods in one part of the state, drought and depleting sources of water in other parts of Texas. Too much water one day, not enough the next.

So at the INVENTATHON@HCC, you can do anything from coding an app, building a robot, or making something uniquely creative based on a given theme of Water Resiliency this Fall 2018!

Teams can consist of 2-5 members and you will have approximately 16 hours to create something amazing! and yes, you can do it by yourself, but it won’t be the same!

Hackathons, like the INVENTATHON@HCC are a one in a lifetime experience! You can learn something new, make something that the world has never seen before, and win some amazing cash prizes!

Blogging for Your Business
August 8, 2018
On a second seminar presented, Tammy Kannal, from Tak-Ful.com shared the opportunities and benefits of starting a blog to create leads for your business.

Not only is branding important, but make sure to be consistent in posting your blogs for at least one or two days a week.

If writing is not a strong skill, business owners can hire freelancers online ( Fiverr.com for example ) to ensure content and photographs are captured to draw the specific market you want to reach for your business.

Also, look through your social media analytics to understand the trends and interest from your audience, and adjust according to your social media reports.
